The Higher Choir is one of the hottest new bands to come from the Atlanta area. Lead singer Chance Walls describes the band as a full glass of Southern Rock and Blues w/ a Folk chaser. Keep reading to find out what else Walls has to say.
Who are you musically (ie: what do you do/who do you play for)?
I would have to say musically I am just me. I like and admire tons of artist. I do try and stay clear of current trends. But for the most part I am Chance Walls co-writer and ‘sanger’ for The Higher Choir.
I know musicians hate this question, but how would you classify the style of music that you are currently playing?
I would have to classify THC as Southern Gothic Country Blues Rock!
Is there a style of music you DON’T like?
I don’t listen to anything I don’t like. Pop Country is pretty bad stuff. I’m also just not keen on forced music or trying too hard. I prefer a more natural organic approach when it comes to true talent. I don’t like phony’s.
Who would you say is your greatest musical influence?
My greatest musical influence is The South. I was born and bred here on the music, food, culture and people. That has all played a huge part on me as a front man. Otis, The Crowes, Panic , REM, The Allman Bros, all fine Southern influences. Nothing much from The North or West after Texas!
If you could no longer play music what would you be/do?
If I could no longer do music, I would be a farmer. Actually, that’s gonna happen no matter what. I will farm and play music until I die. Hopefully I will go doing one or the other, THC Farms run by yours truly The Choir Commander- Chance Walls, yea that works!
If you were independently wealthy you would?
I would already consider myself independent as far as wealth goes, it really depends on your definition. I consider myself extremely wealthy w/ my family, THC and whatever your concept of higher power may be. If its money, I would do what I’m doing, play w/ THC, farm and travel.
What is your favorite memory of a show?
I cant remember anything from the stage. I go to straight white light the whole time. Hence the shades.
Do you have a crazy fan story?
I don’t have a crazy fan story but I saw Owen Wilson backstage holding our CD and asked if he wanted me to sign it. He laughed. I never did end up signing it, lol.
Your favorite place to play?
My favorite place to play is The Metro in Chicago
What new music are you listening too these days?
New music I am currently listen to, Jim James, Black Diamond Heavies, Deer Tick, A.A. Bondy, Scott Biram.

I like driving to older country music, it fits the scenery and its great to sing along with.

What is your weirdest hobby?

Bucket list item that would surprise your friends?
Nothing about me ever surprises my friends, you cant cure crazy. I do have a bucket list and I have tackled quite a bit. I’m a Dad, Husband, Mason, Ordained Minister, Farmer, Frontman, and a Real Deal Southern Hard Working Man. I can die tomorrow and be content w/ that list, but I ain’t done yet, not even close.
