My first pressure cooker and canner was made of thick, heavy metal, one I felt would last over several generations. It worked well, but was heavy and it took a long time to heat to the desired temperatures and to cool down for the pressure to go down enough to be able to open it and lift out the jars. With large amounts of foods to can, it took too long to make much progress. I purchased a light-weight aluminum 16-quart Presto pressure canner and cooker and have had excellent results in canning and cooking meals.
How I Made My Decision To Buy A 16-Quart Presto Pressure Canner and Cooker:
My friend and I sometimes used to work together to can fresh peas and beans from our gardens. She had a light-weight canner and cooker and mine was very heavy. My friend’s canner and cooker cooled down so much quicker than mine did that we actually could can two batches in her canner and cooker to one batch in mine. It was easy to see that the light-weight canner and cooker saved a lot of time and one could make more progress with it than with a heavy one.
With the fact established that the light-weight pressure canner and cooker is much more productive than a heavy-weight one and because it is much lighter to lift than the heavy one, I decided to buy a 16-quart Presto Pressure Canner and Cooker in the summer of 2009. I have now been using it for four years and am very pleased with it.
