Here’s a first peek at what the Oscars may look like next year with announcements from the 2014 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. The live webcast came from TNT and TBS cable TV networks’ official websites early Wednesday morning. Leading the charge with the most nominations at four is “12 Years a Slave,” followed by “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “August: Osage County,” and “Dallas Buyers Club” with three each. Oprah Winfrey received her first SAG Award nom in a supporting actor category for “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”
During last year’s SAG Awards three out of the five acting categories went to eventual Oscar winners: Jennifer Lawrence and Daniel Day-Lewis for lead actors and supporting actress for Anne Hathaway. Lawrence is the only one returning for another nomination this season in a supporting role for “American Hustle.” Rita Moreno is slated to receive SAG’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in both films and television. Moreno is best known for her Oscar-winning role as Anita in “West Side Story” from 1961.
You can catch the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at 8 p.m. ET. The live telecast will be on both TNT and TBS.
