My childhood was full of music. My parents introduced me to a wide variety of music from infancy. We played records together. My parents would play on their guitars and we would sing together. We also occasionally went to see bands play at local music festivals. Although some people may disagree, I have always loved music festivals and feel they can be more memorable and fun than a conventional concert.
Music Festival Advantage #1: A Day of Music
As a music lover, I would be incredibly happy and thrilled if I could spend each day surrounded by music. I have attended a number of indoor, single-act concerts, and I had an amazing time. But my biggest complaint with these concerts is they are too short. I know performers have their limits and can’t play all night. Still, the excitement and energy of a concert is intoxicating, and I’m always left wanting more! With music festivals, though, I can get a whole day-or even an entire weekend-of live music. And I can go home happy and content with all the lively music still dancing through my head.
Music Festival Advantage #2: Unexpected Surprises
One of my favorite things about music festivals is discovering new talent. Since concert tickets tend to be pricey, people often only choose the musical artists they love. However, with music festivals, one flat fee typically gets you in the gate, and you are free to explore all performances. Often, local bands or lesser known performers will play at smaller music festivals to try to gain publicity. As such, I’ve found some new favorites that I probably wouldn’t have discovered otherwise.
Music Festival Advantage #3: Musical Diversity
Like a lot of people, I enjoy different genres of music. A typical concert will usually stick to one type of music. But with many music festivals, there are various musical styles to choose from. I love that these musical festivals allow me to enjoy a variety of my favorite styles. Additionally, such music festivals can be a wonderful family event since there is a little of something for everyone.
It’s true that bad weather can easily spoil a music festival. Sometimes, it can be difficult to find a comfortable seat. Insects and sunburns can be bothersome. And on occasion, music festivals can be a confusing maze of crowds and simultaneous performances. Nevertheless, music festivals can be an amazing experience crammed full of energetic and diverse music-an event that can create fun memories to treasure for a lifetime.
