The Twilight books and movies have all been released. The midnight showings are over, the discussions on the series (good and bad) have all been done to death. But that doesn’t mean there are no more paranormal novels out there. If you enjoyed the love story between Edward and Bella, here are a few more series you might like.
Shiver (Maggie Stiefvater): The first book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy features a unique new type of werewolf. When Grace was 10, she was attacked by wolves and survived. Ever since that day, she sees one wolf watching over her every winter, and she grows strangely attached to him. But this is no ordinary wolf. When Grace is 16, one of her classmates is killed by the wolves. Hunters set out to kill the wolves, now seen as dangerous — but they shoot Grace’s beloved wolf in the process. But then, her wolf does something unexpected — he morphs into a human. Grace finally gets to meet Sam, her wolf in human form…but Sam only has one more winter left before he stops changing and becomes a wolf permanently.
Evernight (Claudia Gray): The Olivers have just accepted positions at the exclusive Evernight Academy, and uprooted their teenage daughter, Bianca, to attend the school. Bianca soon falls for new-guy-slash-quasi-bad-boy Lucas, but there’s a vampire-related twist halfway through the first book that sets the stage for the rest of the series.
Beautiful Creatures (Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl): 16-year-old Ethan Wate lives in a small town in Georgia that isn’t too welcoming to outsiders. When Lena Duchannes moves to town, his classmates are quick to ostracize her, but Ethan quickly falls for the newcome, who turns out to be a witch (erm, caster). But Lena only has a few weeks left before her 16th birthday, when her powers will either shift to the light…or to the dark. The book is pretty thick — then again, so is Twilight.
Evermore (Alyson Noel): If you’re not already familiar with The Immortals series, it just might be right up your alley. Ever has lost her entire family in a car crash but gained psychic abilities. Once settled in with her aunt and at a new school, she meets brooding, mysterious Damen. But of course, Damen is holding a secret even bigger than Ever’s psychic abilities, if you can imagine that. But you probably can.
The Forest of Hands and Teeth (Carrie Ryan): Mary lives in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by zombies. When her village is overrun, she is forced into the titular forest, but still manages to find love with Travis…even though she’s supposed to be engaged to Harry. Although there are zombies in this story, there is no zombie romance (though if that interests you, you should check out Isaac Marion’s Warm Bodies).
