Microsoft sure has a lot of hype surrounding their new system for the console world. The Xbox One has so many different features for both entertainment and gaming that the whole world is buzzing. When the system is finally released in November 2013, will people be flocking to the shelves or desperately clinging to the Xbox 360? If you’re a smart gamer, you should ignore the hype, keep the 360 and wait for a better alternative to the Xbox One. Too many negatives have outweighed the positives of the new console.
Xbox 360 Game Compatibility: One of the great things about upgrading a system from the same company is the compatibility of games that you already own. There’s no reason to rebuild your library and the thousands of dollars invested in games is not wasted. Not true with Xbox One.
With the Xbox One you are starting from scratch. After paying the $499 price for just the console alone, you may be able to swing one or two launch games at best. This leaves you severely limited and there are so many great Xbox 360 titles that could be played for years to come.
The Used Game Dilemma: Sure, GameStop and other retailers are making bank on the used game industry, but after the Xbox One is released, things will just get confusing. When someone purchases a game, they’re not sure if it’s a lease, how many systems it can play on and if their friends can even borrow it. The used game complications will only arise more until we’re all embedded with Xbox chips in our fingertips to access a controller.
A Focus On Media: True gamers want to play games. No one actually cares about yelling “Pause Mad Men” at their TV to make it magically pause. There’s nothing wrong or outdated about a remote control. The voice controlled media guide is only going to make it easier for annoying little brothers to scream and change channels on you.
The Kinect is Always Attached: The internet loves conspiracies and there will surely be a lot of them when the Xbox One is released with an “always connect” Kinect device. How do I not know that a hacker from India is not watching me play Call of Duty?! It’s a very creepy premise, especially for people who do not understand technology as well.
Other Competition: All of the faults with the Xbox One will only open doors for competition to supply the complete opposite. Sony has the perfect opportunity to blow Microsoft out of the water with a PS4 that has no of the hindering features currently found on the Xbox One.
For now, just stick to your Xbox 360 and count on the many games that will still be released for the system.
