I have officially watched the entire first season of the Netflix Original show, Hemlock Grove (and it only took me two and a half days). If you still haven’t checked out Hemlock Grove, you do not know what you are missing! I’m not a fan of paranormal TV shows or movies. I’m actually a proud member of the 3% of the world that loathed the Twilight saga. Werewolves, witches, vampires, and zombies are just not my thing. Being the Netflix fanatic I am though, I knew I had to sneak a peek at their new original show. I sat down and watched the first episode of Hemlock Grove with an open mind, and then the second, then the third, and I was officially addicted. In my opinion, anyone with Netflix Instant needs to watch this show ASAP. If you’re still not convinced you need to check it out, here are five reasons that may change your mind.
The Cast
The cast of Hemlock Grove is amazing, and the chemistry between the characters is so realistic. Penelope Mitchell, Bill Skarsgard, and Landon Liboiron literally steal the show. It’s rare to have a show feature so many actors no one has ever heard of, and not have their inexperience actually jeopardize the quality of the show.
The Mystery
I may not be a fan of paranormal shows, but I am a sucker for mysteries. I spent every episode of Hemlock Grove looking for clues and trying to determine who the killer was. I thought I figured it out so many times, and then the person I suspected was proven innocent. So, of course I had to watch the next episode and try to figure it out all over again. If you enjoy watching thrillers that make really make you think, then Hemlock Grove is definitely for you.
The Scenery
The scenery in the town of Hemlock Grove is breathtaking. There are abandoned steel mills, forests, cemeteries, churches, and beautiful homes. The Godfrey Castle is amazing. I called it a castle but it’s actually just the home of the wealthiest family in Hemlock Grove. It’s not amazing, like a mansion on MTV Cribs. It’s amazing like a huge, stone castle (it literally has towers) and the interior is extremely old-fashioned and rustic.
An Adorable Bromance
Roman Godfrey and Peter Rumancek (Liboiron) have the ultimate bromance, the heir to the Godfrey fortune and a gypsy from the wrong side of the tracks. Both of their mothers tell them not to associate with each other and disapprove of their relationship, but they just can’t leave each other alone. They’re star-crossed bros, they always seem to find their ways back to each other.
12 Episodes
Unlike a normal TV show, you don’t have to wait another week to see what happens. Netflix was kind enough to release all twelve episodes of Hemlock Grove at once. And, the episodes pick right up where they left off, literally the same scene. At times I seriously forgot it was supposed to be a TV show, it was like watching an epic 12 hour long movie.
