If you are an internet junkie like myself, chances are you have found yourself on endless YouTube crawls. I have always been intrigued by strange and unusual broadcasts, whether it be from radio or television. Youtube has a plethora of such findings, and I have complied a list of 5 very strange youtube videos that feature bizarre things recorded off the radio (In no particular order):
1.) Agitated Woman broadcasting on shortwave radio circa 1983
Unintelligible noise that sounds like a woman speaking in a foreign language. The user states that this was recorded off a shortwave radio, and that she spoke that way for hours off and on for 3-4 years! The clip is only 26 seconds long, but it is quite strange! I wonder who this lady was, why she sounded so angry, and what was she ranting about?
2.) The Old Tape
Warning: Do NOT watch this late at night or by yourself. An odd recording that features a series of really eerie chanting, moans, and a female voice reading off obituaries. Very chilling and reminscient of The Ring. The comments and description have now been disabled, but the description had stated that this was recorded off of WKCR FM New York 89.9 sometime in the mid 1990s and the user had NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS. Although its creepy, I doubt it was something paranormal, but probably some sort of performance art.
3.) Strange Recording
The aptly titled ‘Strange Recording’ is just that: strange. The user states that this was found on an old DAT tape and has shared it with the public in hopes of finding out what it may be. I can’t answer his question, but to me it sounds like an old internet dial-up combined with heavy breathing in the background.
4.) Strange Numbers Station
You can’t compile a list of bizarre radio recordings without including a numbers station. Numbers Stations are shortwave radio stations that are known for odd recordings and voices reading off names, numbers, Morse code, etc. and are holdovers from the Cold War era (and possibly earlier). This youtube clip features a numbers station that starts off with a creepy rendition of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ followed by a male voice reading numbers.
5.) Strange Recording about The Year 2000 Election
A snippet of ‘Letter from America’ read by Alistair Cooke somehow got recorded on this user’s Memorex cassette tape back in the day. Although the recording itself isn’t entirely strange, the bit about Bush winning the election and ‘chaos has come again’ is enough to give anyone a case of the heebie jeebies.
