I decided to take a road trip to Austin a few weekends ago to mastermind with some fellow marketers from my online business team. Imagine, just getting in the car, driving about two and a half hours, just to get together to share knowledge and work on our business, with people I have never met past our online Facebook group.
But, inside, instinctively, it felt as though it was a part of the constant work of defining my life purpose to make that trip. Having started with the Empower Network about nine months ago, I had no conscious thought about my life purpose.
Over the months of blogging and training with the Empower Network, I have evolved enough to know that my success depends on knowing what my intention exactly is! When I started my business, I intended to work hard and make it a success. But what did that really mean? I had to find my life purpose in order to actually define my intention of where I wanted to take my business!
Making spontaneous moves such as this day trip is not the normal for me, however, I am no longer “normal” as I find the definition of the word normal to be different for every person. I now know, that I am growing and allowing myself to take action where I never did before.
The journey to Austin would make me think further about my life purpose.
Driving home towards Houston that evening, it is after midnight. In this area of Central Texas, once you leave the city limits it is desolate and dark on the highway. You usually might expect a deer or other critter such as an armadillo to cross your path. But a BAT?
In the Austin, Texas area there are large bat colonies that draw spectators every evening when they take flight from under the Congress Street bridge. Even bats act purposely! Coming out of their caves, bats emerge in a specific intentional pattern, they stay together, and believe in “safety in numbers!” Watch one of the many videos on YouTube to see this for yourself.
I am about 30 minutes outside of Austin, and something smashed into my windshield! A loud thump, and I was pulling over to the side of the road to see exactly what it was. It turns out, it was a bat! The bat had slid into the crevice where the windshield wipers sit, very alone, and I believe that it had met its fate. I removed the bat with a stick and placed the bat in the grass next to the shoulder, and hoped for the best.
As I began back on my journey home, I began to think about this bat.
- Why was it alone, several minutes away from its colony?
- Did the bat not see what was about to hit it?
- Did the bat know what fate was to become of it, and chose to hit the car?
Probably not, as some may think a bat’s intelligence is miniscule!
I began next to think about people. We act in a similar way to bats at times; always going along with everyone else, because it is safe! We usually do not wander far from our comfort zones (to the bat, the colony). We usually do not take risks knowing that the outcome could be risky.
My life purpose is evolving every day!
Was my life purpose to follow along with everyone else, or to stand out, evolve, and become someone of an individually defined existence? It is the later…
As I continue on my journey of learning a growing in my business, I take along for the trip a new knowledge of allowing myself to honor intentions along the route. Even if risky, even if I might smash into a windshield…I shall move forward!
If you’d like to move forward, think about starting your own business. Get on a team with other entrepreneurs, and start mapping out your life purpose today! All you need to do is take the road less traveled and take the risk.
