I’m going costumeless for Halloween this year. I suppose not wearing a costume on Halloween is sort of like making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the peanut butter. Halloween is all about the costumes right? Not so fast. You don’t have to wear a costume to be festive on Halloween. In fact, there are plenty of ways to dress up without really dressing up. Here are four “no costume” ideas if you are planning to celebrate Halloween without a costume.
Crazy Hair and Makeup
For most of us, crazy makeup is out of the ordinary. You might wear some dramatic green or purple eyeshadow with false eyelashes. Scare people with some fake blood or this blood gel that looks like coagulated blood. You can also draw a spider web on your face with a plastic spider inside. Using white and black face paint, you can create a skull face. If you go to Pinterest and type in “skeleton face” makeup, you will find plenty of inspiration. A Halloween-themed manicure is a fun way to add color to your nails. Finally, an orange wig can instantly transform your look.
There are plenty of Halloween-inspired attire out there. Skeleton shirts are pretty easy to find. You might want to purchase Halloween shirts for the entire family. There are even Halloween maternity shirts and plenty of Halloween onesies for newborns too. You can also make a Halloween tutu. Simply cut out some ribbon to go around the waist. Then, cut out strips of black, orange and purple tulle. Use a slip knot to tie the tulle all around the ribbon. Leave enough ribbon to tie around the waist. Halloween socks or tights are other fun ways to “dress up.”
Glow In the Dark
Light up the night with some glow in the dark accents. Take glow in the dark duct tape and use it to make a graphic on an old black shirt. A ghost, spider web or the word Halloween are a few ideas. You can also use glow in the dark temporary tattoos or these glow in the dark vampire fangs.
Black and Orange
This year I purchased some black and orange striped tights. I’m planning to wear them with a black skirt and long sleeved black shirt. I’m planning to pick up an orange and black feathered mask and give myself a Halloween manicure. If you asked me what I was, I don’t really have an answer for you. However, I know I will be ready to go trick-or-treating with my kids.
See, going costume less for Halloween doesn’t have to be boring.
