What’s a device without accessories to go with them? Here are some shown at 2013 CES to have on-hand.
It’s been my experience that those grey lens cloths seem to disappear into an alternate time-stream. Even when they’re on hand, it never feels like they do a thorough job. Toddy Gear’s thicker microfiber cloth will gently grab dust particles and gunk off your lenses and screens. Brightly-colored and fashionably designed, Toddy cloths won’t easily disappear into the crevices of the dryer. This year, Toddy is concentrated on making cleaning fun with its line of Screenies characters. They get the job done every bit as much as the original cloth, but provide some character to a clean screen.
The LensPens also gets the screen clean. For those not familiar with the technology, LensPen uses a carbon compound. Ever use newspaper to clean dirty windows? Dirt lifts up because of the carbon compound in printing ink. With LensPen’s Sidekick and the smaller version SmartKlear, screens and lenses are cleaned with just a quick swipe.
The ultimate accessory company for musicians’ electronic devices, IK Multimedia is including Android users in the mix. Its iRig MIC, iRig MIC Cast, iRig PRE, portable DJ mixer iRig MIX and the tabletop stand iKlip STUDIO will now be Android compatible. The company also has released its Android app, iRig Recorder. IK hasn’t forgotten iOS and came out with its iKlips mounting solutions which makes recording, presentations, and desktop viewing hands-free, portable, and ergonomic.
Standing Up and Slimming Down
Breffo’s stands can accommodate nearly anything. That’s because its award winning spider podiums are made of bendable, shapeable legs. Think pipe cleaners but immensely stronger. This year, Breffo adds to its line of smartphone and tablet stands, inserting a hot shoe.
On a smaller scale, the folks behind CardNinja have developed a pocket that is attached to the back of a cellphone. Credit cards, identification, and business cards can be stored in the pocket. The stretchable fabric allows for several cards or just a couple, but the stretchable fabric grips the contents securely.
Nyko is going big for Wii U this year. It released its Charge Station U which stores and charges a Wii U Gameplad as well as 2 Wii remotes. The company also released UBoost, a clip on battery pack that doubles the battery capacity for the Wii U. It doubles as a multimedia viewing stand. Not enough? The PowerPak will add 3x the capacity. Instead of an attachment, the PowerPak replaces the internal battery of the GamePad. Easily rechargeable via party docks and cables including Nyko’s own solutions, the kit comes with a mini screwdriver in order to install the battery.
Impecca always has a wide variety of interesting accessories. As seen with mobile device cases, sustainable wood is big this year. Impecca’s Bamboo line ranges from calculator to cases and speakers. At CES, Impecca released its Bluetooth enabled keyboard which is surprisingly comfortable to use.
Ten One Design released its Pogo Connect which is billed as the world’s first pressure-sensitive Bluetooth 4.0 stylus for the new iPad. Pogo Connect offers full pressure sensitivity, palm rejection capabilities and more. Its ability to work at any angle is impressive, and its zero gram activation force allows the capture of nuances not attained from other styluses.
The Wireless SmartReader is a personal mobile share point that fits in your pocket. From Dane-Elec, it allows media files to easily be streamed on-the-go, virtually anywhere, with no Internet service or data plan fees required. Featuring eight hours of battery life, the Wireless SmartReader allows up to five devices to access the data simultaneously. It can even provide up to four hours of battery backup for your mobile device.
