I know, I know, another article about Miley Cyrus, but bear with me. She might be making exceptionally poor choices at the moment, and you just want her to go away, but the fact remains, you’re still talking about her.
Let’s be honest here a moment, she makes some really catchy songs. What I’m about to say next probably makes it seem as though I’m old and crotchety and probably yelling at the neighbor kids to get off the lawn, but the first time I really heard her Wrecking Ball song was last week on Saturday Night Live. I can’t get it out of my head now. Sure, I’ve heard the scuttlebutt about her music video being “interesting,” so I decided to watch it on You Tube. I wish I could bleach that memory from my mind. What’s up with licking the sledge hammer??? What does that have to do with anything? The video definitely detracts from the lovely song. Also heard for the first time on SNL, her “We Can’t Stop” song. Her acoustic version was pretty amazing.
Miley Cyrus is 20-years-old and is making some possibly not great decisions about herself and her appearance. Her oversexed image is incredibly off putting and makes her seem desperate. While watching the “Wrecking Ball” video, it was so abundantly clear that she wanted to be seen, to be looked at, to be oogled at, the desperation was oozing from the video. I felt guilty looking, because I felt like I was taking advantage of her, even though I was doing what she so desperately wanted. I made plenty of my own poor choices when I was 20 too, but it wasn’t so public. I almost feel bad for her. Sinead O’Connor was right on in her open letter to Cyrus. The Music Industry really doesn’t give a s**t about their young stars. Just look at Lindsey Lohan, Justin Bieber, Amanda Bynes, Britney Spears and so many others. While Miley can certainly head down that path, she has something that the others are lacking, talent. Sadly, Miley didn’t take too kindly to O’Connor’s open letters.
There is a spark behind Miley Cyrus that can’t be denied. It seems that she knows exactly what she’s doing. Just watching her on SNL, she is able to make fun of herself and be someone else. Obviously there is a tendering, loving, sweet side of her that her ex-fiance, Liam Hemsworth found to be appealing, and when she isn’t trying desperately to push the envelope, there’s a realness about her that makes you want to be friends with her. While I’m not super crazy about her oversexed, twerking, in-your-face appearance, she’s still very interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing what else she has to bring to the table, I just hope that she doesn’t let the celebrity lifestyle ruin her.
Miley’s latest album, Bangerz, was released on Oct. 8. What do you think about Miley’s current antics?
