Getting married with a woodland theme? Got kids who want a Robin Hood party? If arrows would be appropriate at your party you’ll have fun making foods on arrows. Arrow kabobs can be anything from desserts to appetizers but are always unusual and delicious. You won’t use giant arrows, such as those normally shot with a bow, but you’ll make miniature arrows that will look much like the real thing. Fill them with chosen foods to create a cool look for a special woodland occasion.
Most anything that can go on a skewer can become a woodland arrow kabob. Create skewers of doughnut holes, ones full of fruit, or even meat and cheese kabobs. In fact, why not make them all? If you’re having a woodland theme party you can serve the appetizers, the main course, and the dessert, all on homemade arrows.
Just use ordinary, wooden skewers to make the arrows. Each one already has a point at the end – perfect for skewering as well as for creating the end of the arrow. At the opposite end, add feathers, felt, or other material, to use as the feathers at the end. Glue on feather pieces, felt cutouts, colored plastic, or other “feathers”. It can be helpful to look at pictures of arrows to see how the feathers are shaped and arranged.
Skewer the foods that you want. Mix up foods, like fruits and mini muffins, or align just fruits, or just desserts. After making the kabobs you want, and leaving a couple of bare inches at the pointed end, decide on the way that you want to keep the arrows upright. One way is to drill tiny holes into a wooden circle and stick an arrow point into each hole. Another way is to paint a block of Styrofoam and use it to hold the skewers.
There are many great things about arrow foods. They’re great for kids as well as adults, the foods can vary in combination, colors, and types, and the gathering of the food arrows makes a fancy presentation. Appropriate for a wedding, a birthday party, an anniversary party, or even for a camp out, the food arrows are fun, easy, and very unusual.
