“Avengers 2” is still two years away, but concern has started for fans wondering what to expect from the movie, specifically with the characters they love. Both Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow said that their contracts are ended with “Iron Man 3” and Joss Whedon made the cryptic comment that, after seeing “Iron Man 3,” he has no idea what he is supposed to do with “Avengers 2.”
However, The Avengers have been around for a long time, and there are many team members that have come and gone over the years. Even the first movie eliminated two of the original Avengers and replaced them with Hawkeye and Black Widow, members of the second iteration of the team. With that in mind, here is a look at who might be new members in the next Avengers film.
Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch
This rumor comes as a bit of a surprise, because Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are the children of Magneto, which many thought made them X-Men characters. However, they were also members of the second phase of The Avengers in the comics, joining at the same time as Hawkeye and Black Widow. There was talk a couple of years back with Marvel movies head Kevin Feige that some characters could be shared, and maybe this is the case. The rumors started when Joss Whedon said he was bringing in a brother-sister act, two of his favorite characters from the comics. Those characters are the only ones that come to mind fitting that description.
The Black Panther
Another interesting rumor started when Morris Chestnut tweeted that it was time he started learning more about The Black Panther. Of course, T’Challa, the Black Panther, has been rumored to be on the way to Marvel movies for awhile now. While a solo movie seems the best route for Panther, he is a former member of The Avengers and was one of the most interesting members on the animated television series “Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes.” Bringing him in would be a great move.
Wasp and Ant-Man
The two original Avengers members left out of the first movie was Ant-Man and The Wasp. Ant-Man was also known as Giant Man and Yellow Jacket over his tenure, and one of the big reasons he was left out of the first movie was because Edgar Wright is making his solo movie in 2015, the first release for Marvel Phase 3. However, what better way to introduce him than as a scientist helping out the team. As for The Wasp, there are rumors she will appear in either “Iron Man 3” or “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in a cameo role, which is how Hawkeye was introduced as well.
