June seems to be the season for so many major life events. Graduations, weddings, and baby showers all seem to fall in June. I did a quick check and found that September 16 is the most popular birthday in the United States. If a baby is due on September 16 then the mother will be in her seventh month of pregnancy in June. Sounds like a good time to have a baby shower to me!
My baby graduates from high school this year, but many of my friends are having babies and starting or adding to their families. The times have changed so much since I was a new mom! Below are three of the oddest, but most amazing items that I have given to people at baby showers.
Nosefrida The Snotsucker Nasal Aspirator
Does the thought of sucking the snot out of an infant’s nose disgust you about as much as it disgusts me? When I first heard about this device I was pretty grossed out. But it is amazing! Parents rave about how it is vastly superior to the bulb syringe I used when my daughter was a baby. The Nosefrida uses the adult’s suction to draw the mucus out of the baby’s airway. The best part is, you don’t even have to put this in the baby’s nostril. It has filters and check valves to make sure everything goes one way – OUT. This is an awesome gift a surefire conversation starter as well.
Sophie the Giraffe Teether
Let me start by saying that I know $20 seems a bit much to pay for a teething toy. My child did not have any $20 teethers. I don’t think the combined total of all of her teethers came to $20. With that said, Sophie is amazing. She is made of 100% natural rubber and food paint and is Phthalates and BPA free. I was really shocked to find that there are not a lot of baby items that are Phthalates and BPA free! Aside from that, Sophie is cute, makes a sweet little squeaky sound, and apparently tastes delicious to babies. Her long neck and long allows babies to chew on them with their molars. Her nubby horns and little ears are fun to chew on with their front teeth. She is very soft, too. I thought she’d feel like a dog toy, but she feels really nice.
Skip Hop Complete Sheet Set
There has been a lot of discussion about crib bumpers lately. Bumper pads should never be used in infants’ cribs, according to new guidelines released by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Moms like the look of a coordinated nursery, but don’t want to compromise the health or safety of their baby. Skip Hop has the perfect solution. They have a line of baby bedding that includes “complete sheets”. I love how the sides of the sheet look like a bumper without the hassles and safety concerns. These are also great for moms and dads who like the look of a bumper, but don’t want to keep taking it out of the crib, washing it, putting it back, and repeat each time the baby spews forth from its orifices. There are many different patterns for boys, girls, and gender neutral ones for those gender reveal parties.
I hope I have given you some ideas for the next baby shower you get invited to this summer. Remember, when you can’t think of anything else, a gift card is always welcome!
