Best Holiday Gifts for a New Mom 2013

by fat vox

Choosing the right holiday gift requires you to know what new moms need, even if you’ve never had kids before. As I review children’s items, I came up with a list of a few of my favorite items that new moms could appreciate. I’m a mom of two kids under four years old, and I understand what a new mom needs. Consider the personality of the mom, as a super sporty, practical woman might not care about a trendy baby accessory. My list includes items that I’ve personally used and would wholeheartedly encourage others to try. As a disclaimer, I must disclose that I receive free items from several companies to help inform my writing, but I did not receive any free items for this specific article.

Big Ticket Items
Team up with several friends or family members to help buy a big ticket item. New moms can get overwhelmed with needs for strollers, carriers, cribs, crib mattresses, and more. Major purchases take a toll on any parents’ budget, so if you can help with a major purchase, your gift will be much appreciated. Personally, I recommend the Moonlight Slumber mattress, as covered in my article Best Baby Sleep Advice: 10 Tips. The company’s mattresses go through the most extensive testing process and have a super comfortable foam to help pamper the new baby. Any mom would be super impressed with a top of the line, big ticket gift — perfect to tell a new mom, who’s your wife, that you love her.

Cute Baby Clothes
Baby clothes are fun to buy and are affordable. My favorite line of clothing for babies would be RuffleButts, which also has a boy’s clothing line. In the girls’ line, all the clothes have a ruffle on the bottom to make some adorable infant photographs. Also, buy a pair of ToeBlooms to help get some excellently adorable photographs. ToeBlooms makes cutesy cloth sandals for babies as well as matching headbands.

Teething Necklaces

Teething necklaces are inexpensive and very practical. My personal favorite would be the Teething Bling line of necklaces, which never get stuck in my hair. I’ve also had the pleasure of reviewing Chewbeads and Teethease. I think Teethease have a great style and feel great on baby’s teeth. As teething necklaces are pretty inexpensive, you could buy a couple different brands to help the mom choose her personal favorite. As a busy mom, I keep one necklace in the diaper bag for emergency, and another on my dresser for use in the home.

Disclosure

All of the companies I mentioned have given me free items in the past to inform my reviews. I didn’t receive any free items specifically for this article. As always, my writing shows my honest opinions. I only recommend items that I wholeheartedly would use with my children.
