Getting new heroes in the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance can be difficult. With the exception of special operation and lockbox heroes, all heroes cost command points (CPs), which are difficult to acquire in large quantities. As such it is important to spend your CPs on the best heroes for your needs. The following guide details the best tactician heroes in the game and why you should buy them.
Captain America (90 CPs) – Despite his high cost, Captain America has a lot going for him. He is incredibly durable and his Inspiring Leadership ability essentially gives him the best attributes of any character in the game. He is an excellent protector character, able to defend all attacks and counterattack afterwards, and if you are willing to spend another 45 CPs for his WWII costume, he is the best protector character in the game, bar none. As a side benefit, he unlocks the premium mission for chapter 11 of season 1, which allows you to earn back a few of the CPs you spent on him. Cap’s one meaningful downside is that you will find mission 2 of chapter 12 incredibly hard after you first buy him, until you manage to level him up fully.
Emma Frost (200 CPs – When Available) – Unfortunately, as a special operation hero, Emma Frost is not always available for purchase. But during the rare sale that she is available, she will cost 200 CPs. This exorbitant price is entirely worth it. Two of her three attacks are psychic, thus essentially stealthy and her last attack can stun. She has the ability to remove all negative status effects from an ally and restore stamina to all allies as a single quick action. These abilities are so strong that her presence in PvP has almost single-handedly made all blasters except Phoenix worthless. If you have a surplus of CPs, you may want to consider saving them until the next time she goes on sale.
Modern Dr. Strange (23 CPs + 32 CPs) – First, the bad news. You have to buy both Dr. Strange and his alternate costume to get him as a tactician. Additionally, his base attributes are significantly lower than the norm. Despite that, he is one of the more impressive tacticians in the game. While he is on your team, every member of your team has a chance of being preemptively defended by a large shield whenever attacked. The chance of this happening is moderately high and the shield is very good. His presence is the equivalent of adding 50% – 100% health to all characters on your team. He is also a much better tactician than a blaster because his constant stamina regeneration supports a tactician better than it does a blaster. With the ability to heal, shield allies, and two strong attacks he is a great Swiss army knife perfect for a variety of threats. As a side benefit, he also unlocks the premium mission for chapter 9 of season 1.
Grey Suit Black Widow (45 CPs) – You will get Black Widow for free as an infiltrator near the start of the game, but this tactician version of her will cost you 45 CPs. Ironically, the reason you want this version is that she is a better infiltrator in this version than she is normally. This suit makes all her attacks stealthy and makes her counter all attacks against her. She is absolutely amazing in both normal play and PvP because of this and completely destroys some PvP setups and a few hard boss fights.
Cyclops (15 CPs) – This hero is dirt cheap for the benefits he gives you. The best of those benefits is the ability to make every character on your team counterattack for a round. This is particularly on heroes who inflict bleeding with their basic attacks or heroes like Angel who buff allies on their basic attack. Additionally, Cyclops is the only hero in the game that can cancel the class bonus of every other hero in the game. Unless you are saving up for a really important hero, he is basically too good to pass up.
Heroic Age Hawkeye (23 CPs) – If you are the kind of person that enjoys luck, this is the perfect character for you. Every time he attacks, he applies a random negative status effect to enemies he hits. Furthermore, he has a 50% chance of firing an additional shot against an enemy every time he hits that enemy. Depending on luck, he can potentially make additional shots forever, or at least until the enemy dies. Heroic Age Hawkeye is very cheap, but has incredibly high damage. This makes him the nearly perfect choice for leveling quickly in the early portion of Marvel: Avengers Alliance.
