Have you ever just watched the first episode of a TV show, and immediately fell in love with it? There are countless television series out there, so you’re constantly having to decide which ones look like they are worth watching and which ones are not. I love it when there’s a TV show that I can’t wait to see what happens next, and it always keeps me on the edge of my seat or filled with emotions. So what are my top four TV shows to watch right now?
The Fosters
The Fosters is one of ABC Family’s latest TV shows. It centers around a lesbian couple raising a family of both biological and adoptive children, as well as being foster parents. This show is so amazing and groundbreaking. It’s a breath of fresh air. It covers a wide variety of topics (Homosexuality, racism) without making it cliche. It also shows that a same sex gendered couple can raise children and they are perfectly fine without any type of repercussion. The Fosters focuses on family life, and the members of and around the family. It has a perfect combination of romance and drama without it coming off as an annoying teenage drama.
Teen Wolf
I have recently gotten into Teen Wolf, and although I’ve only been watching the show for a few weeks, I am completely hooked. At first I thought Teen Wolf was going to be stupid and cliche. Who wants to watch a bunch of teenage werewolves? It’s so much more than that. Every character, no matter how big or small, plays an important roll, and each has a backstory. The writing and character development in this show is amazingly beautiful. It’s amazing how much goes on in one episode and how much it makes you wonder what goes on in the next show. You’ll fall in love with all the characters no matter who or what they did. You might hate one or two, but really all the characters are amazing in their own way. Teen Wolf is so amazing, and you should really check it out because it will blow you away. You’ll love it more than you think.
Sherlock (BBC)
Who doesn’t love hot British guys solving crimes? Besides the very talented Benedict Cumberbatch (Holmes) and Martin Freeman (Watson), Sherlock delivers something for everybody. Sadly a season of Sherlock is only three episodes (90 minutes each) but each episode offers something different. If you love crime mysteries or even the literature classic himself, Sherlock is your show. While Cumberbatch (Star Trek) and Freeman (The Hobbit) have become household names, they convey their characters beautifully. There’s drama, mystery, and even some humor. Despite the 90 minutes per episode, I always find myself wanting more. You simply cannot get enough of these characters, their story lines and the plot. While fans are eagerly waiting for Season 3, each season has ended in a cliff hanger that makes you want to know what happens next. It’s addictive and will make you want to become a young Sherlock yourself.
Vikings
Vikings is History Channel’s first ever scripted series and it is amazing. While Season 1 has already finished, Season 2 won’t be out until sometime in 2014. If you like drama and you have a bit of blood-thirst, this is the show for you. I was a bit shocked when I saw how violent it was. Nothing beats seeing a man decapitated the very first episode, but then I have to remind myself that the Vikings were quite violent. This show gives the viewer a one-on-one encounter of what it would have been like to be a Viking. This show even has strong female characters, which is hard to find nowadays. It takes a few episodes to get into the characters and figure out what is going on, but I can guarantee that it’s one of the best shows you will watch. It’ll make you doubt anything you’ve thought about the History Channel. Though please keep in mind this isn’t a kid friendly show.
I don’t watch a lot of scripted TV shows. A lot of times they get boring, cliche and repetitive. Every now and then I will find a hidden gem. I suggest everybody to check out the shows above, I think you’ll like it if you did!
