Billy Graham is the Christian evangelical preacher for both the masses and the ages. No matter your spiritual views, religious or political leanings, Billy Graham is a man who so many of us can admire. In fact, on Gallup’s list of most admired men and women, Graham comes out way on top. He’s made the list an amazing 55 times – 49 of those consecutive placings – and has earned this prestigious recognition more often than anyone else in the world. He’s the famous man with the spiritual message and as a Christian messenger, he’s perhaps the most famous living Reverend of them all. This week, “My Hope America”, will air across the country to celebrate his 95th birthday.
Billy Graham has an estimated net worth of $25 million dollars. This wealth comes from a variety of multimedia sources – including print, radio and television broadcasts and programs. For decades, Reverend Graham has had official audiences with every U.S. president since Harry S. Truman, all the way up to the sitting president, Barack Obama. In 1950, Graham wrote a letter to Truman concerning the Korean conflict going on at the time. Shortly thereafter, Truman invited Graham to the White House for a meeting. Though the meet and greet was cordial, evidently, President Truman wasn’t overly impressed with Billy Graham, in fact, he didn’t consider him a friend nor were the two men very friendly with each other.
In Merle Miller’s Plain Speaking, Truman comments, ” But now we’ve got just this one evangelist, this Billy Graham, and he’s gone off the beam. He’s…well, I hadn’t ought to say this, but he’s one of those counterfeits I was telling you about. He claims he’s a friend of all the Presidents, but he was never a friend of mine when I was President. I just don’t go for people like that. All he’s interested in is getting his name in the paper.”
Years later, the two men met again, and Graham apologized for any perceived slight he may have committed against Truman. The former president graciously replied that it was probably due to him not being properly briefed in protocol before their meeting. Graham vowed to always be more prepared in the future if he got the chance to meet more leaders of the free world.
With an estimated net worth of $25 million dollars, Billy Graham maintains a healthy and solid financial empire from which to spread the word of his faith. The bible scholar is now 95 years old, and he will celebrate his birthday with a special documentary television program, My Hope America, will be broadcast on CBN and on FOX News.
