Mother’s Day only comes once a year, and for many moms with young or even grown children, it is a holiday that doesn’t always end up being all that relaxing in the end. This is mainly due to the fact that there are grandmothers and mother-in-laws that need some special attentions as well, which must be considered in along with the many chaotic commitments Spring brings for moms like little league games, first communions and birthdays. Considering these sometimes overwhelming realities, why not make Mother’s Day about the females of the family spending some special time together, doing things that they find truly relaxing? Leave the husbands and little boys at home to fend for themselves and gather the women of the family, inclusive of little girls, and celebrate all that we females do for our loved ones with some girl power. If you don’t have a lot of girls in your family to celebrate with, recruit some of your best loved friends and let go of responsibility.
Here are some ideas for your special day:
Idea for Mothers Day: Get Manicure/Pedicures Together
Mani/pedis are always a great idea for Mother’s Day and a fun bit of pampering that women of all ages can share together. Perhaps follow with coffee or a walk around town if the weather is nice. Buy a pair of festive or colorful flip flops for all members of your trip and celebrate the warmer weather. The great thing about this idea is that little girls often get a discount on polish, so the trip won’t break the bank. Each mom can go dutch, and consider it a gift from their respective husbands and children.
Idea for Mothers Day: Go for Tea
What mom doesn’t like a tea party? Find a local tea room or travel to a hotel that serves high tea in a nearby city. Girl it out and wear (or buy in advance for each woman to wear) a pretty hat, each one different and representing the individuality of each female on the trip. It will remain a keepsake of your special day together. Remember to take pictures! Since all of the adult women are moms, splitting the bill is not out of the question if money is a concern.
Idea for Mothers Day: Go Shopping and Out to Lunch
What is easier than planning a day at the mall? Do a little shopping and grab lunch out. No moms should be cooking on Mother’s Day. Buy a souvenir to help you remember the fun you had together. For example, each of you can pick out a new lipstick at the make-up counter in your favorite new shade.
Idea for Mothers Day: Take a Day Trip
Plan a day trip to a place you have always wanted to go, or a place that brings back a special memory together. If you live near a coast, the beach never fails. Go antiquing or to a quaint Main Street for some window shopping, or even to a local famer’s market. The point is that you will be celebrating together and although your trip will be rich in memories, you will need to spend very little to achieve luxury.
These trips are really not about the money you will be spending. They can even be done on a dime. They are more about time well spent, doing things that women love to do. Every mom deserves a day off from taking care of others and sometimes, this might be just as close as you can get!
