Companies are secretive about what will be exhibited at CES. During the show in January, there are over 3500 companies debuting new products. It’s as if Willy Wonka suddenly opened up the doors to his chocolate factory. But in this case, it’s the electronics that are the treat.
It’s a rare delight when secrets are gleaned from company reps. Some hints at what will be showcased by Pelican were attained.
Making a Case
Pelican has always been at the forefront of protection. Known for its top-of-the-line cases for photographic equipment, the company earned a devout following in the entertainment community. Their indestructible, air-tight, waterproof cases carry a lifetime guarantee. But few have ever needed to ask for a replacement. That’s because their products are so well-made.
Recently the company has made a foray into the consumer market. At CES 2012, its laptops and tablet cases were at the top of many lists. They carried the same guarantee and the same protection as their camera equipment cases. The 1495 laptop case’s exterior shell is crush proof and dust proof. Made of Polypropylene copolymer material, the exterior is impervious to extreme temperatures. Water-resistant, an o-ring in the lid along with a Gore-Tex membrane in the pressure equalization valve keeps water out of the case. Inside Pelican’s Pick N Pluck foam makes it easy to grab equipment on the fly.
At the 2013 show, Pelican introduced several cases for mobile phones as well as backpacks. The company is also making tool chests, flashlights, and backpacks. Their top-of-the-line coolers can retain ice for 7-10 days. That’d sure come in handy for a long location shoot.
Making New Cases
At CES 2014, Pelican will showcase expanded lines of mobile phone cases. Its Vault series can survive a 6 foot drop due to its impact absorbing elastomeric liner protection. Water-resistant, the case offers momentary immersion protection as well. Microphone and speaker covers are also resistant to water. You’d think that with all this solid protection that the audio would be negatively affected. But it’s not. And unlike many others on the market, the case is guaranteed for life. Expect to see an expanded line for other devices to be exhibited at the show.
Currently available is the Protector Series for the iPhone 5, 5S, and Samsung Galaxy S 4. Offering an engineering grade polymer exterior and an elastomeric lining that provides shock and impact absorption, the Protector Series is a snap-together case.
Attentive to consumer needs and desires, Pelican is becoming more than a movie studio secret. It’s becoming a brand consumers depend on for protecting all their gizmos and gadgets.
