Chicagoland’s Spookiest Homes

by fat vox

Chicago has been called one of the most haunted cities in America, and Halloween in the city is even spookier. This year, a few area residents have gone above and beyond to make their yards the scariest. These homes are spectacular and a treat to see at nighttime.

Shurley House of the Dead

This is the best Halloween-decorated house in the Chicago area. Although it is located in the Chicago suburb of Orland Park, it is definitely worth the drive on the weekends. The Shurley House of the Dead is located at 17404 Deer Creek Drive and comes with many tricks, including real actors on occasion. The Shurley house also has a crypt, scary projected images, a man hanging on the house, a dead child, a man in a coffin, and much more.

The Tucker House

One of the best displays is the Tucker house, located at 15229 Sequoia St. in Oak Forest. A YouTube video from 2009 shows the Tucker House in full effect. Its display comes complete with fog, black lights, blow-ups, strobe lights, and frightening decorations. Plus, there is another home a few houses down from the Tucker house that has a graveyard, bloodied ghosts, and other scary scenes.

One of Chicago’s Most Decorated

The Bridgeview home located at 8639 S. 78th Ave. is not only a yard full of haunts, but it is also an award-winning home that has won the Village of Bridgeview Beautification Contest in the past. It is also featured in the book “Best Decorated Houses in Chicago.” Once you get on 78th Avenue, you can’t miss the house. The yard will pull you in with a haunted tree out front full of ghosts and surrounded by graves, half-buried corpses, scarecrows, pumpkins, and more!

Rogers Park Scare

The Rogers Park residence at 1832 W. Lunt is at it again! This house is no stranger to outlandish decorations and has transformed to a morbid scene to give the neighborhood a good scare. It’s doesn’t have the typical arrangement of blow-ups and pumpkins. Instead, it is covered in webs, a life-like hanging skeleton, witches, and spiders.

Oak Lawn Treat

This home is decked out with graves, ghosts, skeletons, and more creepy items. It is located at 5911 W. 90th street in Oak Lawn and brings an element of scare to a typical street. Neighborhood families and visitors are taken to Halloween upon arrival of this home.

House of the Dead

When driving up to this house, beware of the witches in the window! They add an unexpected scare, since the yard will draw your attention, but once you have looked over the cemetery, they will be patiently waiting to scare you. The House of the Dead, located at 10108 S. Kilpatrick Ave. in Oak Lawn, is a neighborhood treasure, and its complete cemetery won’t disappoint.
