Research indicates that classical music has been proven to heal both mind and body. According to Dr. Oz, classical music can even extend your lifespan. Music as therapy goes back to the beginning of time. The ancient Greeks used music as medical therapy. And the bible indicates, so did King David.
I Samuel 16:23, New American Standard Bible says; So it came about whenever the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him.
Ancient Greek philosophers believed that music had a healing effect on both soul and body. After World War II researchers took note, that music had a positive effect on veterans who were emotionally disturbed.
Music therapy has been shown in studies to reduce sleeplessness, high blood pressure, and depression. Music therapy also has been reported to decrease aggression and anxiety in Alzheimers patients. Tests done on patients after surgery showed that those who listened to classical music had 29% less anxiety than patients who did not.
Although there are no reports indicating, that music therapy cures diseases such as cancer, medical professionals believe that music can promote healing, improve physical movement, decrease certain symptoms, and enrich the overall quality of life for a patient.
Studies indicate that slow, soothing music, is beneficial for over all health. It enhances cognitive skills, improves memory, reasoning skills and concentration. And also elevates mood, boosts the immune system, relaxes muscle tension, increases endurance, reduces blood pressure, and regulates stress hormones.
Classical music has been shown to deliver the most benefits, with the top composers being Vivaldi, Mozart, Scarlatti and Mozart.and meditation music were found to deliver the most health benefits. On the flip side however, loud music can lead to stress, and therefore negatively impact your health.
Although I could find no studies on the subject, I have found that classical worship music has the best effect on me. I have a music CD entitled Classical Praise, Easter. There are 10 traditional hymns that all relate to the resurrection of Christ.
When I listen to this CD, I feel peaceful, and, serene. As I reflect on Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, I can feel His love for me. I am calm for hours after listening to this CD. And issues that had been bothering me seem to lose their effect.
Actor Joseph Moscalo , has played popular character Stepahno Dimera on the soap Days of Our Lives, for 20 plus years. One of his signature trademarks, is classical music. While everyone else is in a panic,(usually because of some ungodly act that Stephano has set in motion), Mr. Dimera sits in his study, nodding his head to soft, soothing music.
When confronted by his enemies, Stephano is calm, cool, and collected and strategically planning his next move. The story line seems to imply that the music is key to tranquility exhibited by Stephano Dimera. This art is seems to imitate and be confirmed by the research and testimonies of those whose lives have been improved because they listen to classical music.
