Colored sugar, candy sprinkles, or other goodies (all optional)
It used to be that s’mores was a chocolaty treat that was made around the campfire. Now, they’re served at weddings and parties. But as much as you try to make special s’mores, they’re still graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. Sure, they’re good but for a special occasion, shouldn’t they be spectacular? How do you make s’mores beautiful? Create cutout shapes on top of them! Most people think you can’t cut graham crackers with a cookie cutter but you absolutely can. When you do, you make fabulous treats, which can be served at any party.
The colors of s’mores – light brown, dark brown, and white, don’t exactly spell “colorful”. So, you need to come up with an idea for making much more impressive s’more designs. When you use cookie cutters to cut shapes from the graham crackers you’ll also be creating s’mores with a party look.
Decide on a cookie cutter for the graham cracker. It can be any shape and can be a metal or a plastic cutter. When you treat the graham cracker in a certain manner, you can make it soft, and then you can cut out any design that you desire. Lay the cookie cutter on the center of the graham cracker, and drip water inside the cookie cutter, and onto the graham. A clean spray bottle can help you aim and direct the water where you need it. Microwave the graham cracker for about 40 seconds and the wet area will become really soft. Use the cookie cutter to cut out the shape.
To make the s’mores even more spectacular, use colored marshmallows instead of the classic white ones. Set one graham on a plate, put the chocolate on it, and top it off with the colored marshmallows. Take the graham that has the image cut out and set it on top. Microwave to melt the chocolate and marshmallow.
With cookie cutters available in so many different shapes there are no limits to the designs that you can do on the party s’mores. Make white hearts, blue stars, pink ballet slippers, green dollar signs, and so many more designs, by combining the cutout shapes with the appropriate colors of marshmallows.
If you want, take the project further, and coat the marshmallow shape with colored sugar, candy sprinkles, or other goodies. Simply apply a thin coat of clear corn syrup to the marshmallow that is showing through the cutout area. Sprinkle on the desired candies, crushed cookies, crushed cereal, or other treats.
