Fall is one of my favorite seasons. The weather is perfect for playing in our backyard. In addition, Mother Nature provides us with some beautiful colors, scents and flavors. Falling leaves and delicious apples are just some of the other things I look forward to. It is a great time to incorporate some of these elements into my fall decor. Here are some tips on how to create an inviting home for fall.
I like candles as much as the next person. However, there is something truly inviting about fresh, natural scents coming from the kitchen. After boiling some water, you can add some cinnamon sticks, orange peels and a whole clove to the mix. Allow the ingredients to simmer and the smell to permeate your home. Just make sure to replenish the water and don’t leave the potpourri alone. After all, you don’t want your house to smell like burnt oranges….that would defeat the purpose.
Soft, Warm Throws
I don’t know about you. However, I’m often cold in the morning. I have some lovely soft throws that I can bundle myself up in. These are perfect for family movie nights and evenings in front of the fire. I always try to purchase throws that are washable. I wash them frequently in hot water to keep allergens and dust mites at bay.
It’s easy to change the look of your home with a few simple accents. Red, yellow and orange kitchen textiles will brighten up your cooking space. A red pitcher with some yellow gerbera daisies can grace your entry way or bathroom. A few orange throw pillows can transform a neutral couch. A lovely tablecloth is an inexpensive way to add color to your dining room.
Each year, I purchase a bag of cinnamon pinecones. Not only do these smell delicious; they are a nice decoration for the mantle. I love the natural scent that fills my house when I have these scented pinecones.
Most crafts stores will carry artificial leaves. You can buy some branches and stick them in a vase for a centerpiece. Fall wreaths add color to the door. You can also gather some fresh leaves, press them and then display them in a glass frame.
Red, Orange and Yellow Flowers
I try to change out the flowers in my walkway at least twice a year. In the fall, I like marigolds for their bright, inviting colors. Helenium and golden rod are two other great choices for fall.
Decorating for fall has never been so much fun!
