Creative DIY Christmas Gift Tags

by fat vox

I don’t like spending money on Christmas gift supplies that are simply going to be thrown in the trash. Thus, I try to reuse and make as many gift wrapping supplies as possible. Sometimes, I will make tags from scraps of wrapping paper. However, other times, I like to be more creative. Here are some DIY Christmas gift tag ideas using items that are, likely, somewhere in your home. In other words, you can make these homemade gift tags for free.

Present Gift Tags

If you have any stiff paper and scraps of ribbon, you can make these tags. I used part of an index card that my daughter had scribbled on (I used the non-scribbled portion). Then, I wrapped up the square piece of paper, just as I would wrap a present. I secured the ribbon with a small pieces of tape on the back.

Picture Tags

Do you have extra pictures, photo Christmas cards or school pictures hanging around? Use these pictures to let children know which gift is theirs. Simply attach the photo to the outside of a package. You can dress the picture up with a little glitter glue or metallic markers. A final idea is to cut a smaller picture out and attach it to a piece of card stock.

Beautiful Messages

If you’re like me, it’s likely you have old Christmas cards laying around. I looked for cards with writing on them. Peace, Joy, Hope, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas are a few examples. Then, I cut these out into a rectangle (you could also do a square or a rectangle). On the back, write To and From. Then, put a hole punch in corner and tie a ribbon through it.

Felt Tags

I took some rectangular scraps of felt and made them into nice, soft Christmas gift tags. If you have them, use some fabric scissors to make a scalloped edge. However, you can also use some small scissors to create a scallop. Then, take a black permanent marker, hold the fabric taut and write your holiday message.

Craft Paper Gift Tags

I had some leftover Christmas scrapbooking paper. Using a craft paper punch, cut your scrapbooking paper into shapes (such as a circle, heart or star). These tags are unique and a wonderful way to personalize your gifts. If you don’t have any scrapbook paper, you can do something similar with wrapping paper or old Christmas cards too.

These homemade Christmas gift tags are a fun way to dress up your presents.
