Pennies have very little value these days. After all, it is difficult to find much of anything for under a dollar, but they all add up. Find yourself short a few cents and you might end up leaving the store without your purchase. They can be worth more when used as crafting and decorating accessories, especially in the bedroom. They can be used in many unique and creative ways that go far beyond filling piggy banks. Even dull coins can add amazing flair to ordinary decor. Use these creative ways to decorate a bedroom with pennies, and accent the space with copper or copper clad coins. Although they are just about worthless, they can look like a million bucks.
Cover Painted Cardboard Letters or Numbers with Pennies
Consider buying lightweight 3D cardboard letters to decorate with pennies. Paint the letters medium to dark brown using acrylic craft paint. After the paint dries, attach the pennies until the sides and fronts of the letters are covered using a hot glue gun. If they do not fit the width of the cardboard letters, they can be stacked and slightly overlapped. They can be used to spell out a name, initials or a single word.
Decorate the Top of a Bedside Table with a Penny Mosaic
Some people are covering entire walls and floors with pennies, and the results are nothing short of stunning. Considering the price of tiles and other wall coverings, it is a cost efficient option. However, it is tedious and time consuming. You do not have to cover an entire bedroom wall to make a dramatic statement. Cover the top of a bedside table instead. Glue the pennies to the tabletop using EZ6000 adhesive. It is available online and in most major craft stores, and it will securely hold the pennies in place.
After the adhesive dries, use durable tape to create a temporary waterproof edge. Seal the top and the open spaces with resin that will dry to a smooth crystal-clear finish. A hair dryer can be helpful since the resin will dry faster. More importantly, the bubbles will come to the surface, pop and leave behind a slick surface.
Use Pennies as Filler in a Clear Vase of Faux Flowers
One of the simplest ways to decorate a bedroom with pennies is also the most eye catching. Partially fill a clear glass or crystal vase with clean shiny pennies, and use them to hold faux floral stems in place. The coins are a unique change from the usual glass pebbles, marbles or clear resin. Best of all, if you ever need a little money, it will be easy to retrieve and just as easy to replace.
