Companies that offer satellite television programming do not usually demand the return of small metal satellite dishes. They are often left behind for the homeowner or resident to recycle or throw away. They should not end up at the curb. It is possible to reuse a small satellite dish in unique and creative ways. They can be painted, decorated and transformed into birdbaths, mosaics and more.
Reuse it as a Birdbath
A small satellite dish can be used as a ground level birdbath. Squirrels, chipmunks and other wildlife will use it as well. It is not necessary to paint the metal and risk having it eventually peel away. Cover the bottom with pretty polished stones. Small river rocks are ideal. The brand name on the dish will not be visible, and wildlife will see it as a natural pool for drinking and bathing.
Create a Gorgeous Mosaic Wall Hanging
Those that create mosaic works of art are always looking for new things to decorate and create. A small satellite dish is ideal. Spread grout on the surface, one section at a time. Top it with tiny tiles of your choice, beads or anything that will stand up to wet grout. After the entire satellite dish is covered, go over it with another layer of grout to fill in the cracks. Before the grout dries, clean up the tiles and other embellishments with a damp sponge. Attach a wire for hanging using metal adhesive. The finished piece will look phenomenal on a bare wall.
Make a Wall Hanging with Peel and Stick Appliques
If you would like to create something less time consuming, paint your small satellite dish with spray-on primer and spray paint especially for metal. Apply peel and stick appliques to create a unique wall hanging for a living room, bathroom or any space in the home. Add text, designs or subjects of your choice that will coordinate with the style and theme of the space that it will adorn. The designs will appear to be painted on instead of stuck on. No one will guess that your unique wall hanging was once a small satellite dish.
Create a Shallow Container Garden
Container gardens do not have to include typical flowerpots and planters. A small satellite dish makes a fantastic container that can be placed on a lawn. It is ideal beneath a tree that has protruding roots or in an area where the ground is exceptionally hard. Fill each small satellite dish with rich organic soil and plants of your choice. The flowers and foliage will appear to be growing on top of the ground instead of in shallow metal containers.
