If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!
That seems to be the mantra of the upcoming season of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” if the rumored new cast lineup proves to be true. While the cast list won’t be officially announced until next week, according to TMZ, several surprising names are on the roster for the upcoming season of the TV dancing competition, and many of them have ties to past contestants of the show.
Check out who’s on the rumored cast list and which past “DWTS” contestants they can turn to for advice.
One of the most surprising reveals is that actress Valerie Harper will compete on the show with pro partner Tristan MacManus. The 74-year old “Mary Tyler Moore Show” alum is battling terminal brain cancer, but has reportedly signed on to the physically demanding competition, despite the fact that doctors previously gave her only a few months to live. “MTM” alum Cloris Leachman competed on the show back in Season 7 at the age of 82 and made it past the halfway point, so perhaps Val can take some advice from her former co-star.
Tip for Valerie: In 2008, Leachman told the New York Times how she combated the toll the show took on her body: “I have pads in my shoes for my bunion. I have a shot in my knee for my bad knee. I have high blood pressure. Very bad osteoporosis. And asthma. But I’m talking pills for everything so everything is fine.”
Actress Leah Remini has also reportedly been signed to the new season of dance competition. The former “King of Queens” star recently made headlines after leaving the Church of Scientology, but does that mean her longtime Scientology pal – and “DWTS” Season 12 runner-up-Kirstie Alley won’t back her this season? Alley has already denied reports that she’s upset with Remini’s exit from the church, so all should be good when it comes to tango tips.
Tip for Leah: Alley has already served as a mentor of sorts to “DWTS” alum Wynonna Judd, who competed last season on the show. Judd told People: “I’ve talked to Kirstie so many times. She said if you have fun and you do everything that you’re going to be doing with your heart, the rest will follow.”
Then there’s Nicole Polizzi – you know her as Snooki — who’s been a longtime name on the rumored “DWTS” cast list. But this time it looks to be the real deal. Her fellow “Jersey Shore” co-star, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, changed up his gym, tan, and laundry schedule to dance his chiseled abs to ninth place on Season 10 of the show alongside pro partner Karina Smirnoff. Now, will he have any advice for his former roommate?
Tip for Snooki: In 2010, The Situation told GQ he mentally prepared for the competition by envisioning victory, right down to the roar of the crowd. “I’ll do anything to win,” he said. “For this competition, if I need to change my hair or my outfit, or try different moves-I’m very daring. “
He also added: “All I do is dance, eat, and go to sleep. That’s all I do…DES-dance, eat, sleep. I used to be GTL, but now all I do is DES-dance, eat, sleep!”
“Dancing With the Stars” Season 17 premieres on Sept. 16 on ABC.
