Diary of the carbon turtle.
May 24, 2012
An exciting event has happened today. The earth moved around my shell. Dirt fell and the earth opened. I felt the warm sun and as the day progressed the bones that once carried my heavy existence, my very being minus the flesh was out in the glorious heat once more. This time though I wasn’t a part of my body, I was a light lingering spirit and I rose above the hole that had entombed me for so long. The world was different now, there were not the creatures of my youth, and there wasn’t even my water hole. Instead; there were creatures that walked on two legs carrying tools busily hunched over my bones.
How many years had it been? What of the Snakes and crocodiles, the swamps; the water hole? Many questions pondered my mind. I felt a strange feeling come over my spirit. My mind time warped back to the time I died; then quickly sped through to the present. I gasped with a jolt. I knew now, these creatures were humans. They were Inquisitive creatures that had a desire so powerful to know the history of the earth. I wish there was a way for me to tell them.
The day grew dark; my remains were all most out of the ground. They were lifted onto the back of a machine. I hurried back to my body and the machine began to move.
With my new found wisdom, I was able to listen to these creatures. We were going to a museum. Here; they were going to find out more about me. Again I wished there was a way I could communicate with these beings.
They named me Carbonemy confrinii which mean carbon turtle. My bones; in the present were called fossils. The humans rushed about gathering different tools and machines. I rose above my remains and watched with intrigue.
Several weeks have passed since my previous entry. It appears that through the dirt and dust of many a year. The humans have calculated my age. According to them, I am sixty million years old.
For sixty million years; my soul has been trapped in a turtle shell. I have been preserved under masses of soil and molten rock while the world has evolved and span on its axil. Many an evolution has destroyed and recreated the earth. Species have survived and died and some have evolved into unrecognisable creatures from my youth.
I feel that it is time for my soul to reach the higher ground and I am at peace.
As the sun rises over the hilltops, so do I. The almighty sun beams brightly, blinding the earth below.
I am eternally rested.
I am free.
