Coming up with a DIY Halloween costume for a man is easier than it seems. Instead of spending fifty dollars or more at the overpriced Halloween store, roll up your sleeves and create your own homemade Halloween costume. Ideas are all around you! Throw in some key items found around the house or from a thrift store and you are on your way to crafting a contest-winning costume. Here are some ideas to get you started.
A long trench coat, blue pants, a brown fedora, a blue tie, a magnifying glass, and brown gloves are all you need to turn into this beloved cartoon inspector. If you are really ambitious, make this costume over the top. Find some spare toy parts from the thrift store and make it a true helicopter hat.
If you prefer a really frightening costume that you can make at home, the Medieval Executioner is the perfect costume choice for you. All you need are: a large fake axe, a black cloak tied at the waist with a rope, and a mask.
Governor from The Walking Dead
The villain from the hit TV show on AMC is someone fans of the show love to hate. Of course, you are going to need a black eyepatch. Additionally, you’ll need black jeans, a black shirt, and a black vest over it. A fake gun will complete the look.
Super easy if you already sport the smooth, shiny head look. The only other items you will need are a pair of white pants, white bushy eyebrows, and a gold hoop earring.
Mr. Spock from Star Trek
This futuristic costume is classic at the same time. Find a pair of black pants, a blue v-neck sweatshirt, and a black T-shirt underneath. You will also need a Starfleet insignia to attach to your shirt. They are sold on eBay but if you are pressed for time, you can easily make one yourself. Print out a picture online, trace it and attach it to cardboard and adhere to your shirt with a safety pin or velcro.
You’ll need a hunter green long-sleeve shirt, a black apron, black gloves, a face shield (found at any hardware store), a fake knife, and lots of fake blood.
All it takes to pull off this look is white Nike shoes, a pair of jeans, a blue and white checkered shirt, a denim jacket, and a red puffer vest. Don’t forget a pair of sunglass and a watch. Complete the look with a homemade hoverboard.
To pull off Freddie, you will need a black wool hat, a red and black horizontally striped sweater, black pants, black boots/shoes, and a professional makeup artist. Just kidding about that last one. Helpful ‘Freddy Krueger makeup tutorials’ are plentiful on YouTube. You can also purchase a mask if your makeup skills aren’t up to par.
Gus Fring from Breaking Bad
Quite possibly my favorite villain of all-time, Gus Fring would make quite a clever costume, especially the scene where he walked out of the nursing home room after the explosion. You will need to make sure you have the right look for this or else everyone might mistake you for Batman’s enemy, Two Face.
Bill Nye the Science Guy
This beloved scientist that many of us grew up watching on TV is still a popular figure. To pull off this look, you will need a white dress shirt, a blue lab coat, a funky red bow-tie, and a pair of black pants.
Who doesn’t love Forrest Gump? This captivating character can be recreated with a few items from any thrift store. A short-sleeved white and blue checkered shirt, khaki pants, and a belt. In order to pull off Forrest accurately, you must get his haircut right. For an added effect, carry a box of chocolates, half eaten, of course.
Hopefully, this article has convinced you how easy it is to make your own Halloween costume. Skip the Halloween store, save yourself some cash, and get creative!
