We received this book called No More Kissing by Emma Clark as a gift from my sister to my daughter. When I read through it before reading it to my daughter, I was really concerned as my daughter does not get humor. It turns out that she loves this book; the bright colorful pictures make a huge difference.
All of the monkey family in this book are dressed while other animals such as the lions have no clothing on. There are pictures of the jungle and many animals kissing each other. Everyone is kissing in this book. Wives and husbands, children and mothers, aunts and little monkeys, parents and baby; you will see crocodiles kiss, flamingos kissing, even the birds kiss in this book. Kisses, kisses everywhere!
This book starts off with a little monkey wondering WHY. Why is there so much kissing going on? The next page shows all the animals kissing each other and the little monkey says especially mommies kissing babies. He wishes that there were no kissing, he holds a sign saying “NO MORE KISSING.” Of course that especially goes for him and more so for people he does not know! He says that his family does it as well; kiss here, kiss there, kiss hi, kiss bye, and on it goes. The next picture shows his little cousin getting her hurt finger kissed and then he says she will kiss anything, and she does, the very bottom of the page is her kissing… a bug!!
The little monkey stands on a stool and yells “NO MORE KISSING” in this book. Then he says it makes little difference, and they do it anyway. The next picture shows them chasing him around trying to kiss him. He says that it is a good thing that he is not a baby any longer as they get more kisses than anyone else! His mother has a baby and the little monkey says no matter how he screams or cries, they still keep kissing him!
So he yells, “STOP! Can’t you see he doesn’t like it?” Grandma gives the baby to him. The baby is screaming his head off and no matter what the little monkey does, he still cries. Then something strange happens, the little monkey says it was just an accident…he kissed the baby!! He says good thing no one noticed. (But they did, in the picture everyone is grinning.)
This is a great humorous children’s book about kissing. I would recommend this book for any child, even for children not expecting a little brother or sister as it is so cute. The pictures are wonderful. So colorful and happy. My daughter and I love this cute book. It is just adorable!
