Chalkboard contact paper
Chalk or paint marker
In real life, mansion furnishings would look ridiculous in a quaint farmhouse; farmhouse furnishings wouldn’t look proper in a mansion. The same is true for a dollhouse. If you’ve purchased the newest in dollhouses, you really need elegant furnishings. But if your child has a homemade, unusual, or simplistic dollhouse, the furnishings might be homemade as well. That’s fine, but if you’re finding that the dollhouse is lacking in appliances, bedroom night stands, living room bookshelves, and similar things, you just need to cut and draw them. Dollhouse chalkboard furniture and appliances are different than those made for fancy houses but they’ll fit in perfectly with your child’s house.
When your girl asks you where the furnishings are for the house, you can give her a bed or two, and maybe a kitchen table and chairs. But if you want to furnish the entire place you might find yourself dishing out a couple of hundred bucks. Unless, of course, you make chalkboard furnishings. She might be a little confused when you hand her a stack of chalkboard paper, but when it’s all installed, she’ll love her new furnishings.
Chalkboard contact paper makes it so simple to create any number of fake items in a dollhouse. Just cut squares, rectangles, and other shapes, and stick them on the walls. Cut a tall rectangle for a refrigerator, draw doors, handles, and other features, then peel and stick the paper to the kitchen wall. Do the same thing to make a stove, a dishwasher – even a toaster. You can make cabinet doors, windows, and so much more, simply by cutting ordinary shapes and drawing on them with chalk.
In the bedroom, make chalkboard night stands and a wardrobe. In the living room, a set of bookshelves and a television. In the bathroom, make a medicine cabinet. You’ll have lots of fun creating the new furnishings but you won’t spend a lot of money. A roll of contact paper can do the entire inside of a dollhouse and costs under ten bucks.
Chalkboard contact paper is black but can easily be covered with another color. Chalkboard paint now comes in nearly every color imaginable. And, if you want the furniture accents, like handles, frames, and shelves to be permanent, substitute a paint marker for the chalk. Your girl might give you a strange look when you hand her over a pile of geometric squares as dollhouse furnishings, but once they’re all in place, she’ll fall in love.
