I have a squirmy child and I always worry about putting sunblock and lotions anywhere near her face and eyes. My daughter never gets sunburned, but I still worry, so I try my best to apply sunblock and not get it in her eyes. As I was complaining one day about how messy suntan lotion is when applying on a squirming child, a friend suggested Neutrogena Healthy Defense Sunblock Stick SPF 30, which she used on her son. It looked to me to be more problematic than the suntan lotion. I mean a stick that is solid that I need to rub on my daughter instead of a lotion that smooths in? I did not believe it would work out better, but I gave it a try. Now we only use Neutrogena Healthy Defense Sunblock Stick SPF 30 since then! It worked that well!
My child has very sensitive skin, so I am always wary about trying new skin products, but this did not break her out. My friend’s son also had issues with skin rashes and he had no problems with Neutrogena Healthy Defense Sunblock Stick.
This item comes in a container similar to stick deodorants except it is much flatter. You turn the dial on the bottom of it to move it up and down just as solid deodorants. It is a white solid that you rub on skin to be protected from the sun. My hands did not get as messy as applying other suntan lotions. Also, I was able to apply to baby faces quicker and much easier! I loved that it is convenient to pop in a suitcase or bag and takes up no space! Unlike bottle suntan lotions, there is no worry of spillage or leaking. It can be dropped and not harmed.
The cost was higher than I expected — $7 for a small tube of this suntan lotion stick. 0.47 ounces does not seem like it would last a long time, but it really does. The directions say to apply liberally and to apply again after swimming. This sunblock is not greasy and does not make my child slippery. At times, I do have to rub it into her skin a bit more with my fingers. The directions also state not to use on children under six months of age. If you have a hard time finding it in the store, look with the other Neutrogena products. That is where I finally found it. It is so small that it is easy to overlook. It will come with a cardboard sleeve in back and clear plastic cover on front, so you can see the product inside. Of course, this product is not only for children; adults can use it too! It is a product the whole family can share. It really helped us apply sunblock with less fuss and time!
