Duplication Versus Innovation

by fat vox

Duplication is praised as one of the essential ways to grow your networking business. Whatever you call your business model; network marketing, multi-level marketing, MLM, direct sales, independent distributorship, duplication is used as a means of getting your team to follow the success system in place in order to achieve results. The main line of thought in having your downline duplicate your efforts is that everyone in the company is doing the same thing, marketing the same way, saying the same things and will therefore get the same results that everyone else is getting.

While the idea of duplication has its pros, in reality, everyone does not achieve the same results with the same efforts. Many factors affect your results. Skill level, communication skills, knowledge and market area can all affect your outcome.

Life Success Coach Tony Robbins is attributed with saying frequently, “Success leaves clues”. That quote alone tells you that you duplication is a sound principle. If you do what successful people do, then you will have success. Whatever the success system your company is teaching, it is important to follow it to some degree so that you aren’t reinventing the wheel. However, the success systems are usually quite basic and don’t take into account the individuals strengths or weaknesses. It is more a broad cloak under which everyone operates.

You can still follow the system while playing to your own strengths. If the system says to make 3-way calls with your sponsor. Then make 3-way calls with your sponsor whenever you can. Find your own wording to get the call in progress. Be yourself. Use the system with your own personality in mind. Suggested actions and word choices are just that, suggestions. Make it your own.

Before the popularity of the internet, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, email marketing, or any of the other numerous recent innovations, online business marketing was not something taught by network marketers. So, that means someone was the first to ever market their business online. Someone was the first to tweet about their product. Someone was the first to hold an online webinar. If those someone has strictly adhered to the duplication model, no one would use these technologies in the way they are today to market their opportunity or product.

Use your area of expertise. If you are internet proficient, why not use it to market? It makes sense to do what you know in the framework of duplication. I know people who never actually “talk” on the phone. Everything is text, email or webcam to communicate. It would make sense for those people who are comfortable with that type of communication to utilize it for their benefit. Instead of an actual 3-way call; get your prospects on a webinar with your upline so they can hear from someone who is successful already in a way that you are comfortable connecting them with.

Large events are a big part of most success systems. That doesn’t mean you can’t create an event that is unique or different from what is currently offered. An event is an event. If the goal is to present the products and business, you can do this in many different formats. Hold challenge events, trainings, themed events; and tweak them to your style and personality. Your strengths can compliment any duplication model if used correctly.
