Fresh oatmeal cookies are delicious whether they are homemade or store-bought, especially if they are thick, soft and chewy. Even kids love them, especially when they are used to create entirely new desserts that include ice cream, whipped cream, peanut butter or frosting. Next time you have extras on hand, use them to make delicious and different homemade treats. Since they are very easy to prepare, they are ideal for potluck meals, family gatherings, celebrations and anytime that you want to serve something sweet and unique without spending a lot of time in the kitchen.
Create Delicious Ice Cream and Peanut Butter Treats
Ice cream sandwiches are typically made with soft cake-like chocolate wafers and vanilla ice cream, but they can be much tastier and far more unique. If you love peanut butter, use oatmeal cookies to make gourmet ice cream sandwiches with a twist. Generously spread your favorite brand and type of peanut butter on the bottoms of two oatmeal cookies. They should be about the same size and shape. Top the peanut butter with ice cream that has been slightly softened. Try using chocolate chip, peanut butter swirl or another favorite variety. The flavor combination and the various textures are phenomenal.
Make a Cookie and Whipped Cream Trifle
Trifle desserts are typically assembled in clear bowls with high vertical sides. Instead of using the usual pound cake and whipped cream combination, make it with oatmeal cookies. Begin with a cookie layer in the bottom of the bowl. Next, add a layer of prepared banana, chocolate, butterscotch or vanilla pudding. Top it with another crumbled cookie layer. Keep creating layers until just about filling the bowl. Top the dessert with canned whipped cream, and sprinkle it with broken bits of oatmeal cookies. It will be a huge hit.
Easy and Unique Oatmeal Cream Pies
Boxed oatmeal cream pies are delicious, but like many other packaged desserts, they are costly when considering what you really get for the money. Companies have shrunk their products in an effort to avoid raising prices. Why not make them at home instead of buying overpriced packaged treats? Spread canned frosting on the bottoms of the cookies, and put them together to create individual cream pies. You do no have to use classic vanilla filling. Try them with chocolate, cream cheese or any other flavor desired. They will taste much better than boxed varieties sold in stores, and they will be thicker and far more unique.
