Easy DIY Valentine’s Day Hairstyles

by fat vox

Getting great hair isn’t as hard as it seems. Instead of spending money at the salon to get ready for Valentine’s Day, learn how to create a few different hairstyles that are sexy and romantic enough for any special night.

Romantic Side Sweep

A long, side-swept hairstyle looks pretty, and can pair perfectly with an elegant occasion or casual event. Start with clean, combed hair. First, put a little mousse or styling gel on your fingertips and massage it into the roots of hair while hanging your head upside-down. This will lift roots up and away from the scalp to make hair look fuller.

Make a deep part to one side of your hair and sweep it all over one shoulder. Place a clip in the back to hold hair in place. Add a few large, loose curls to the length with a styling iron and allow hair to hang free down the shoulder. Put a braid in the back of hair if desired to glam up the style even more.

Casual Updo

Show off the lines of your neck and shoulders with a casual updo to create a sexy look. A sleek or severe updo looks just a little too rigid for a day that’s about romance, so don’t be afraid to let your hair look a little tousled.

Prep clean, dry hair with a little mousse or gel. Put a bit of mousse in your palm (about one-quarter cup) and run it through hair, moving from root to tip. This gives hair a little bit of volume and some texture for you to grab onto while you’re styling. Gather up hair in a ponytail at the crown of the head, but don’t worry about pulling back every single strand of hair. Allow some tendrils to fall free, because they key to this style is the tousled look.

Divide the gathered hair into sections. One at a time, fold and twirl each section of hair around the base of the ponytail. Pin each in place, and don’t be precise about how you wrap your hair or where you pin the sections.

Loose and Sexy

Wear your hair long and loose to create a sexy, windblown look. Start by prepping your hair with anti-frizz serum while it’s still slightly wet. Using a round brush, lift hair in 2- or 3-inch sections and blow-dry starting from the roots. Curl hair around the brush as you dry each section of hair. Once hair is dry, spread mousse or styling gel on your hands and then move your hands through your hair starting from the scalp and moving out down the length. The product will add a little volume, and your fingers will help to create that tousled look. Give hair more volume, if needed, with a big curling iron.

So Fresh and So Clean

Give your hair a smooth, sleek style that shines. Hair that looks natural and hangs free invites your lover to run their fingers through it. Prep hair with anti-frizz serum while it’s still damp, then comb and part it. Use a straightening iron to flatten out sections of hair. Start at the roots and hold the iron out and away from your head as you move down the length of hair. Add a slight twist to the end to curl the bottom and give hair a little more volume, if desired.
