Easy Halloween Nail Designs

by fat vox

I don’t always dress up in an elaborate costume for Halloween. I might put on a simple DIY cat costume, a mask or some Halloween tights. However, I do like to take the opportunity to dress up my nails. Using a few shades of nail polish and some permanent markers, I can easily create some festive nail art. Here are a few easy Halloween nail designs.

Prep your Surface

Before doing a manicure, I always cut or file my nails. Then, I use a homemade sugar scrub. I take ½ cup of extra virgin olive oil and combine it with 1 ¼ cups of cane sugar. Then, I add about 10 drops of essential oil. For Halloween, I think pumpkin essential oil is nice. Mix the ingredients together and then take a tablespoon full to rub between your hands. Wash and dry your hands. Next, apply a good base coat. Now, you are ready to paint your Halloween nail designs.

Orange French Manicure

First, take an iridescent peach polish (like Nars Orgasm) and put on one coat. You can use any pale orange color. Next, take a darker orange polish and swipe a thin stripe across the top of your nail. You can also take a thin, black permanent marker and draw another stripe underneath the orange stripe. Then, take the same marker and write a Halloween message on your thumb. In my experience, using a top coat over permanent markers made the message smear. Thus, the permanent marker may not last as long as a polish design.

Spider Nails

For this, you will need a base coat. After the base coat is completely dry, you can use a black permanent marker to make a round circle for the spider’s body. Next, draw four legs on each side. I used a silver permanent marker to make two eyes. Then, I drew a black line on the tips of my nails (or use orange or black polish to cover your tips). You may want to check the permanent marker on one of your nails. I haven’t had a problem taking off the permanent marker with nail polish remover. However, it’s always good to check when using new markers. A cat is another easy nail art design to draw with a black permanent marker.

Polka Dot Nails

Polka dot Halloween nails are easy to achieve. First, choose two Halloween colors: black, purple or orange are always good choices. You could also do yellow, orange and white for a candy corn effect. First, put on a base coat. Then, take your colors and pour a little onto a paper plate. Next, take a bobby pin and put one of the round ends of the pin into your polish. Make sure it coats the bottom of the bobby pin well. Then, lightly dab your bobby pin onto your nail…repeat until you have the desired amount of polka dots. If you are using two colors, use two different bobby pins. Finally, after your dots have dried go over it with a clear top coat.

These easy Halloween nail designs are a great way to dress up your nails for October.
