by fat vox

Throwing a vegan super bowl party? Not vegan, but have vegan guests coming to watch the big game? What are you serving? Coming up with fun and easy vegan snacks that liken super bowl foods can be tough. Still, it’s not impossible if you put a smidgen of thought into it. Here’s some vegan super bowl foods that resemble traditional favorites without the meat and cheese. They’re easy to prepare, so if you have omnivores to feed as well, they won’t take up too much of your time and energy. After all, you’ll need it to cheer your team to victory.

Easiest Ever Vegan Guacamole

You don’t need a bowl to mix this traditional super bowl favorite with a twist. The avocados become individual serving bowls. Non-vegans will love them too.

Instructions:

  • Halve and pit avocados (1 half per guest)
  • Cross-cut the fruit of each half without breaking the skin.
  • Sprinkle with garlic powder, salt and lemon pepper.
  • Fill the hole made by the removed pit with your favorite salsa.
  • Provide organic corn tortilla chips or carrot slices for dipping

Added Bonus: Double dipping in your personal guacamole bowl is politically correct.

Easy Vegan Chili

Vegans and omnivores alike will rave over this chili. It couldn’t be simpler to make. See added bonus for those meat-eaters who insist on having meat in their chili.

Instructions:

Saute:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 bag frozen onions and peppers
  • 1 pkg. fresh sliced mushrooms
  • 2 thin sliced zucchinis

Add:

  • A 14 oz. can crushed tomatoes
  • A large can of kidney beans
  • Your favorite chili seasonings

Simmer over low heat for 30 minutes.
Serve in bowls with optional shredded vegan cheese.

Added bonus: If you have omnivores coming, you can use the same recipe. Just split the batch. Add meat to one half. Serve with “real” shredded cheese.

Simple Spicy Bean Burgers

The nice thing about these bean burgers is that even kids can mix and form them. They love smashing the beans and making the patties. Just give them the ingredients and let them have at it. That leaves you free to do whatever you need to make your super bowl party a hit.

Mash together:

  • 2 cans of black beans
  • ¼ cup oatmeal
  • ¼ cup diced onion
  • 2 tsp. onion powder
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1 tsp. Salt

Form into “burgers” with your hands.
Saute in olive oil and crushed garlic until crispy on the outside.
Serve as you would any burger.

Added bonus: Bean burgers have become so popular, even omnivores love them. In fact, all these recipes will please a mixed crowd. This is not rabbit food.

Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes

Take a big delicious bite of yum. There is no way anyone at your super bowl party, vegan or not, will turn these down.

Instructions:

Bake and halve sweet potatoes.

For each half:

Remove cooked potato portion from skin.

Mash and mix in:

  • 2 banana slices
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
  • ½ tsp. Cinnamon

Return to oven.
Bake until brown on top

Added bonus: There’s no sugar in these sweet treats, so they make a great dessert for your diabetic guests too.

How about finger foods?
