Dessert mixes can be as good as or better than homemade treats. It is impossible to tell the difference, especially when chocolate cake has been enhanced with stir-ins, toppings and fillings. It can be exceptionally decadent. Instead of just coating the top, sides and layers with frosting, try something new. Nuts, peanut butter chips, caramel sauce, fresh fruit and many other tasty enhancements can be used to make it far more enticing than anything sold in bakeries and stores.
Top Frosted Chocolate Cake with Chopped Peanuts and Caramel Sauce
Peanuts, chocolate and caramel are a delicious combination. If you want to make your boxed cake more decadent, top the frosting with chopped peanuts and thick and buttery caramel sauce. For something really rich and delicious, break up Caramello bars and evenly scatter them on top. The cake will taste as great as it looks.
Stir Peanut Butter Chips into the Batter
One of the most popular candy bars includes peanut butter and rich milk chocolate, and it can be enjoyed in the form of moist and decadent cake. Stir two cups of peanut butter chips into the batter. Immediately put it in the oven to prevent all of the chips from sinking to the bottom. To add more flavor, combine ½ cup of peanut butter with a 16-ounce can of vanilla frosting. Top the frosted cake with milk chocolate chips and chopped peanut butter cups.
Combine Equal Parts of Frosting and Marshmallow Cream
If you prefer sweet and fluffy frosting instead of the ultra-creamy kind, make your boxed cake more decadent by topping it with a mixture of equal parts of chocolate frosting and marshmallow cream. Not only will it taste much sweeter and more decadent, but it will also go much further. You will be able to spread thicker amounts in between the layers as well as on the top and around the sides.
Top it with Mandarin Orange Slices and Chocolate Chips
Fruit and chocolate are a fantastic combination. Chocolate oranges are a favorite during the winter holidays, but the amalgamation of flavors can be enjoyed anytime. Make a frosted chocolate cake more decadent by topping it with neatly arranged mandarin orange slices. They are available in the canned fruit section of most grocery stores. After draining the small orange sections, place them around the edge of the cake. Fill the center with milk chocolate chips. The cake will be a chocolate and orange lover’s dream come true.
