Not everyone feels comfortable in nothing but a swimsuit, especially when combing a beach or mingling around a pool. A cover up is the ideal solution. It does not provide much protection from the sun, but it provides comfort while hiding imperfect areas. It does not have to come from a store to look fantastic. Use these easy no-sew ways to make a bathing suit cover up with an oversized t-shirt. You will save a considerable amount of money, and it will look stylish on the beach or by the side of a pool.
To make a no-sew bathing suit cover up you will need a loose fitting v-neck t-shirt with sleeves, fabric chalk and a pair of sharp fabric scissors. Choose a colored pocket tee or a basic white one. Even a printed t-shirt will work, but part of the design might have to be cut away. Read all of the directions before choosing a shirt to use as a bathing suit cover up. Pins are also helpful since multiple layers of fabric will have to be layered and cut at the same time.
Begin by placing the t-shirt on a clean flat surface. Fold it equally in half with the right side facing outward. Using the photo as a visual guide, mark the material with craft chalk. You will need to mark along the seam of the v-neck and around the area where the arms meet the body. The arms of the shirt will be removed, and the new openings should dip halfway down. Create side openings as well. They will allow the bathing suit to show through on the sides while sufficiently covering the chest, abdomen and thighs.
After drawing the lines to mark the areas that will be cut away, pin the fabric in place. The pins will keep the material from shifting. Carefully cut along the lines, and brush away any remaining fabric chalk. The chalk that does not brush off will come out in the wash. It is a much better option than a pen or marker. Make a mistake while creating the design with ink and it will never come off.
A cover up made with a t-shirt can be embellished in countless ways. The fabric can be tie dyed and dried before cutting. Iron-on designs and/or tiny bows can be added after the cover up is complete. Decorate your easy no-sew bathing suit cover up as you would decorate a plain t-shirt. With acrylic craft paint, puff paint, iron-on designs, embroidered patches and rhinestones for material, absolutely anything is possible.
