Easy Ways to Make Colorful Decoupage Paper Bowls

by fat vox

Decoupage projects are not just for kids. Absolutely anyone can create gorgeous works of tabletop art with just a few simple craft supplies. Different types of paper, Mod Podge and optional embellishments can be used to make gorgeous paper bowls with unique textures and designs. The options are only limited by the imagination. Consider these easy crafting options. They can be used for party centerpieces, favors, home decorating and more.

Use Art-Quality Tissue Paper

Art-quality tissue paper is ideal for making paper bowls. Cut dozens of pieces into desired shapes, and blow up a round balloon of the appropriate size. Apply decoupage medium to a portion of the rounded end, and apply the paper shapes. They should slightly overlap. Continue until covering the entire end of the balloon, and do not worry about crooked edges. After a few minutes, coat it with a final layer of decoupage medium. Allow it to dry completely before popping the balloon. The edges can be evened up with a pair of sharp scissors.

Make Colorful Decoupage Bowls with Paper Confetti

Tissue paper bowls are delicate and beautiful, but if you want to make something really unique, consider using confetti. Buy a bag of ready-made paper circles in colors of your choice. Apply a generous amount of decoupage medium to the round end of the balloon. Apply it as evenly as possible, and be sure to cover the entire surface. Allow it to dry for a few minutes. Coat the surface with a generous amount of decoupage medium, and let it dry completely. After popping the balloon, trim the edges with a pair of sharp scissors.

Use Catalog Cutouts

If you have a few unwanted catalogs lying around, do not toss them into the recycling bin. The graphics and text can be used to make unique paper bowls. Cut out sections of your choice. They should be no more than an inch or two in diameter. Apply decoupage medium to the base of the balloon, and apply the graphics and/or text until it is completely covered. Give it a few minutes to dry before coating it with decoupage medium. After it completely dries, trim the edges with scissors.

Use Decorative-Edged Scissors and Add Fine Iridescent Glitter

No matter what type of paper you use to create handmade bowls, consider using decorative-edged scissors to trim the edges for something stylishly different and fun. Also, if you would like to create something more eye catching, apply fine iridescent glitter to the top coat of the decoupage medium before it dries. No matter the occasion, your creations will look amazing.
