To make hanging pierced earrings you will need thin sheets of craft foam in colors of your choice, sharp paper punches in shapes of your choice, earring hooks, four jump rings for each earring, a variety of rhinestones, a rhinestone applicator tool and crystals or gems in a variety of colors. You will also need a small pair of needle nose pliers, a one-eighth of an inch punch and a pair of sharp pointed scissors.
Hanging Flower Earrings
To make the earrings pictured, begin by punching out flower shapes. Use something similar to those pictured or use your favorite shape. After making the flowers, trim off any ragged bits of foam around the edges. Create a decorative center with a rhinestone or a faux gem or crystal. If the center is glued into place, allow the adhesive to completely dry before handling the craft foam flower.
Next, use a small round punch to create perfect openings in the tops of the craft foam flowers to accommodate the jump rings. Link four jump rings, and connect the two blooms. Attach the earring hook to the top flower to complete the first earring. Follow the same procedure to make the other earring and you will have a matching set.
Craft foam hearts can be used to make gorgeous hanging earrings for Valentine’s Day. Use two heart-shaped punches of different sizes to create a layered effect. You will need two larger hearts and two smaller ones for each earring. Consider using pink and red and/or white craft foam.
Begin by gluing the smaller hearts to the centers of the larger ones. If desired, glue tiny crystals or faux gems around the edges of the hearts. Allow the glue to dry completely before continuing.
After the glue dries, create holes in the tops of the larger hearts. Connect four jump rings for each pierced earring. Connect two hearts to both ends of the chain of jump rings, and attach the earring hook to the top of the heart. Wear them on Valentine’s Day or anytime you want to wear gorgeous heart-shaped hanging pierced earrings.
