When a little girl becomes too tall for a pair of jeans that otherwise fit, they are worth saving and turning into stylish capris. After adding creative embellishments, they will no longer look like pants that were outgrown. They will look amazing and exceptionally stylish. Best of all, they can be decorated and updated to coordinate with tops and sandals of any color, and without sewing a single stitch. Use these easy ways to turn short jeans into stylish capris, and creatively update your little girl’s wardrobe instead of buying something new.
Create Colorful Stripes with Acrylic Craft Paint and Painter’s Tape
One of the best ways to turn short jeans into stylish capris is with acrylic craft paint. It will stick to the fabric, even after washing them many times. The pants can be made to look as if they were designed to be short. With the addition of horizontal stripes that are strategically placed just above the ankles, they will look fantastic.
Apply blue painter’s tape evenly above the bottom hem of a pair of little girl’s jeans. Mask off a second area to create a single stripe. To create a second stripe, secure another piece of tape around each pant leg. Leave about one inch of material in between each stripe. Be sure to press down the edges of the tape to prevent sloppy edges.
Place a piece of cardboard inside the leg to prevent the paint from bleeding through the single layer of material. Carefully apply acrylic craft paint in between the taped sections. Apply the paint on one side of each pant leg one side at a time. After the first side fully dries, flip the jeans over and paint the other pant leg. They will look like stylish capris instead of jeans that are ridiculously short.
Use an Eyelet Tool to Tie up the Sides with Ribbon or Lace
If your little girl’s jeans are too long for capris but too short to wear, they can still be transformed into capri jeans without sewing a single stitch. You will need an eyelet tool to create a hole on each side that will not fray. Apply metal eyelets approximately four inches above the hem in the same location on each side. Thread an eight-inch piece of ribbon or lace through the eyelet, and create a bow on each side. Jeans that were once too short for your little girl to wear in public will look like stylish capris with gathered sides. As long as they fit comfortably everywhere else, they will provide many more months of use.
