As a frequent traveler, I make sure I equip myself with gadgets that make my travel experience convenient and enjoyable. One of the essential travel gadgets that always goes along with me is my Nintendo 3DS. This portable gaming device does much more than just play video games. With built-in WiFi, I use the system to keep me entertained during long plane rides and to watch movies in my hotel room via Netflix.
The 3DS is a cool little portable video game device that brings 3D technology into the palm of your hands. Without any glasses, the system allows games, videos and photos to be viewed in very realistic 3D. The 3DS system retails for $169.99 and the larger 3DS XL system is $199.99
This is the function I use most on the 3DS. Via WiFi, I easily connect to Netflix from my hotel room and can watch titles directly from my playlist. Hulu Plus is coming to the 3DS and that will really add a great deal of content. I would like to see a YouTube app made available.
The system shines when it comes to gaming and the 3D capability really adds a cool dimension to game play. In addition to cartridge games, new titles can be previewed and downloaded directly from the Nintendo eStore. The system also plays Nintendo DS titles. I particularly like PES 2013 3D, which is a soccer title, as well as Brain Age Concentration Training, a memory improvement title.
Videos, through the Nintendo Video app, are also available and I like to check in to see what the latest selections are as they rotate. Nintendo features a lot of cool, new bands and the videos feature 3D technology and really make good use of the system’s capabilities. Video selections also include comedy and animation.
The system serves as a great music player, with a headphone jack and storage on the removable SD cards. Songs can also be downloaded and purchased via the Nintendo eShop.
I use the built-in 3D camera to take cool 3D photos when I’m traveling. There is also a front facing camera for video chatting. The 3D photos, which look amazing, can only be viewed in 3D on the 3DS.
