“Everville: The First Pillar” by Roy Huff

by fat vox

Do you like fantasy books with unique races and young heroes who are on a mission to save the world? If the answer is “yes”, then you shouldn’t miss “Everville: The First Pillar”, because I assure you it has everything a great fantasy/adventure novel needs: a wonderful parallel world, a brave boy who would risk his life to save it, strong friendships, fascinating races, and a terrible darkness that threatens every living thing. If you liked “Lord of the Rings”, you will most definitely enjoy Roy Huff’s novel.

Owen Sage is a freshman at Easton Falls University. Sure he expected the first few days to be awkward and difficult, but he was never prepared to a fall in a completely different and strange universe. At first, he thinks that it must have been his imagination, or the fact that he was feeling sick, but he soon understands that the world of Everville is real. It is described as being “somewhere between here and there, sometime between yesterday and another day”, and Owen cannot believe his eyes at its sheer beauty and perfection. But Everville is in great danger, because a great evil is spreading over it and its inhabitants, an evil that is also threatening Owen’s world. To save both worlds, he must restore the balance, and he cannot do it without the help of his friends, Dante and Anika, and of the Keepers and the Fron from Everville.

Roy Huff has created an incredible universe, and populated it with the most fascinating races. The Keepers are old and wise, while the Fron are short, funny, friendly and very clever. Owen learns a lot from them, and this adventure turns him into a confident and responsible young man. The characters in this novel are likeable and believable, and the reader can easily relate to them. You cannot help but be afraid for Owen and his best friends, Dante and Anika, while they are trying to fight an evil before which they seem so small and helpless. The fast-paced action will keep you on the edge of your seat.

“Everville: The First Pillar” is a fun and enjoyable read that is suited for both teenagers and adults. It is one of those books that can fascinate the reader regardless of his/her age. The Kindle edition hit the 2 nd place in Epic Fantasy and the 3 rd place in Teen Fantasy during the debut release on Amazon, and the great reviews recommend it as a compelling, heart-pounding read that will keep readers up all night.
