by fat vox

If you are looking for a travel destination that is ideal for a honeymoon, romantic getaway, or simply an island paradise to get away from it all, Bali just may be that place. Located in Southeast Asia, Bali is one of thousands of islands that compose the archipelago of Indonesia. Best known for its stunning beaches and world-class diving and surfing, Bali’s landscape also features rugged, volcanic mountains, lush green forests, and rice paddies. Year-round sunshine, friendly locals, and interesting culture also add to Bali’s appeal. Read on to find out more about what you can expect when you visit Bali.

Places to see

While the island of Bali is made up of several cities and villages, some of the more popular places to visit include the capital city, Denpasar, which offers the most choices in shopping from street vendors and markets to shopping malls.

Ubud–Just north of Denpasar, Ubud is a charming town where you can see sumatran elephants and Balinese traditional way of life. Ubud is also known for its collection of museums and art galleries.

Kuta–Kuta is favored for its lovely beaches and buzzing nightlife.

Amlapura–Northeast of Denpasar is Amlapura, a place of beautiful gardens where you can enjoy a romantic walk.

Mount Agung–Bali’s highest point, Mount Agung, is considered a holy site, but you can participate in a trekking tour to climb above the clouds.

Singaraja–In the village of Singaraja, you can admire colonial architecture, lovely waterfalls, and bask in natural hot springs.

Seminyak and Sanur–These picturesque towns are where you will find a number of beachside resorts.

Expect to be pampered

Bali is known for its numerous spas and spa services that range from massage tents on the beach to luxurious resorts hidden away in the lush mountains. Many of the Balinese make their living from tourism, so they are eager to spoil and pamper you from head to toe with a wide range of treatment packages.

Beautiful Temples

One of the most prominent features of Bali is the abundance of Hindu temples. You will see them in every size, shape and design everywhere you go. No two of them are alike. The Balinese take their religion seriously, and as a tourist, you can enjoy visiting these temples to admire their beautiful architecture and relaxing in the peaceful atmosphere that surrounds them. Some of the island’s most significant temples include Pura Tirta Empul with its sacred spring, the Besakih Temple (which is more than 1,000 years old), and the Tanah Lot Temple. Throughout the year, there are often festivals going on around many of the temples where you can see traditional Balinese costumes, music, dance, and customs.

Gorgeous beaches and world-class diving

Bali’s beaches are what often draw many tourists. Some of these beaches feature pristine white sand while others are known for their black, volcanic sand. There are many beach choices to suit everyone whether you prefer a popular beach with amenities or a more secluded stretch, or if you wish for a beach ideal for water sports. Some of the most visited beaches are Nusa Lembongan, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Bukit Peninsula, Jimbaran, and Cangum.

Bali’s crystal clear waters, sunken ships, and colorful coral reefs teeming in marine life present excellent diving opportunities, and you will find dive shops all over the island to assist you with equipment and diving tours.

Tour packages

You experience Bali by any number of tour packages such as honeymoon and wedding or adventure, which would include the likes of jungle trekking, whitewater rafting, safaris, and mountain biking.

When to go

Most of the year is a good time to visit Bali. However, if you are thinking of traveling to Bali in the springtime, you should expect rain. If you plan to go hiking in the mountains, you should bring something warm to wear as the higher altitudes present chilly temperatures.

Getting around

You can use Bali’s public transportation to get around the island, which includes buses, taxis and minibuses, which are known as “bemos.”
