When I see nail polish, I’m like a kid in a candy store. I love them all: creamy neutrals, shiny metallics, chunky glitters and even black. Each season, I try to buy one or two new colors. For fall 2013, it was a hard choice. Beautiful metallics and deep greens were some of the colors that immediately caught my eye. However, I still have my eye on a few of the new dark colors. The fall nail trends for 2013 are a stunning way to welcome the season.
Dark
When I get a manicure in the fall, I almost always go dark. There is something exciting about the transition from summer pinks to inky navy. Black was a big color on the fall runways. However, elle.com also says that “oxbloods, midnight blues, amethysts, and mossy and emerald greens” are other ways to go dark. I’m partial to my favorite dark OPI shade “Light my Sapphire.” This looks nice under some dark blue glitter polish. You can also do a basic black and top it with a matte top coat. Over the years, I have gotten over my fear of doing dark polish at home. I simply make sure to clean up my nails with a small makeup brush dipped in nail polish remover.
Metallics
Standard metallics like gold and silver were seen on the runways for fall 2013 trends. However, you can stray from the norm and go with a lavender or green metallic. Iridescent shades can also be thrown into the mix. My favorite lavender metallic is Essie’s ” Nothing Else Metals.”
Glitter
Over the years, glitter nail polish has changed for the better. Now, you can choose from micro-glitters, mega-glitters or a combination of textures. Deborah Lippman has some amazing glitter shades. If all-over glitter is too much for you, manicurist Dawn Sterlin says “Wear a clear or neutral base color and swipe glitter polish across the tips of your nails. This is a more simple yet eye-catching way to wear your glitter.” This technique is easy, even for amateurs.
Neutrals
Neutrals are an understated way to add some color to your nails. For fall 2013, you can go for a warm taupe or brown. Or take it to the cool side with a soft gray. I like pairing warm neutrals with a gold glitter accent and cool neutrals with a silver accent.
My Favorite Fall Colors
From Essie’s Fall 2013 collection, I’m loving a dark gray teal color called “Vested Interest” and also “For The Twill of It,” “a reflective olive shimmer.” Incognito In Sausalito from OPI’s San Francisco 2013 Fall/Winter Collection is a beautiful dark blue.
The fall 2013 nail trends seem to offer something for everyone.
