Eventually Carly and Jill became close friends and Jill had succeeded in replacing Marcie.
They were very different in character. Carly and Marcie were pretty much the same kind of mindset; they were both serious, quiet, and wise beyond their 16 and 17 years.

Jill was a bit peculiar. She acted much younger than her age (27) and her station as a mother of three children. One of the peculiar things she did was to compliment everyone she met. She said Carly’s aunt had very nice eyes and somebody else had beautiful eyelashes. Everyone thought she was weird or crazy.

Carly’s family thought Jill was a lesbian by the way she went on sometimes but Carly let them know it was just her way of making friends with people. Jill loved people and deep down inside Carly knew she wanted to be loved. You see Jill was disowned by her own family after she got pregnant and married a black man. So Jill had to find her own way of being accepted in the world and she did that by befriending and complimenting everyone she met.

When Carly was 20 Marcie’s father and Jill had split up. He went back to Nova Scotia and Jill who was from Montreal stayed in Montreal. But once Marcie’s father left Jill was not the same anymore. She became wild; dating all kinds of men. Carly did not like that very much and told her as a friend what she thought her behaving like this in front of her young daughter. In fact she said,

“Tracie changes fathers as many times as I change my pantyhose.”

Of course Jill was taken aback; but, there was one good thing to come out of it. It was Jill who actually introduced Carly to her future husband. However, after that even Tony, Carly’s soon to be husband could not stand Jill because of the life she led. Jill was not the person Carly always knew her to be.

Despite everything Carly still considered Jill her friend. Carly and Tony and Jill and whichever boyfriend she had at the time would to things together. However, you would never know which man of Jill’s came along. Jill lived like that jumping from one man to another for a few years and then moved and never gave Carly her phone number.

Carly was upset that Jill would just move and not give her her new address or telephone number. After all they had been so close. Carly was there when Jill needed a friend back in the day when Jill was having problems with Marcie’s father. She was there for her through all her boyfriends even though she didn’t approve.

Then one day out of the blue Jill’s daughter Tracie who must have been about 8 years old at the time called Carly. When Jill heard Tracie on the phone she asked who she was talking to and when Tracie told her she told Tracie to hang up.

Carly felt so bad she never knew that Jill could do anything like that. It hurt her for years.
