In my role coordinating service and volunteer opportunities for college students, I am always on the lookout for new humanitarian organizations and causes. I get very excited when I hear about a great event coming to my area in metro-Atlanta. One such event, MIHA Catalyst for Change Fashion Show, is combining an exciting fashion event with a really wonderful cause encouraging supporters to be active citizens and make a difference anyway they can.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 7 pm at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park. Linda Diack and Eddie Goss are organizing this event that is promoted to have food, folks and fashion fun. There will be celebrity models, live jazz and high boutique fashion wear. It is hosted by Linda Bruner from Jahaza Belle, Chris Martin from Fashion Plate, Vicki Locke from 98.5, Best Self Atlanta and Jezebel Magazine.
I found this event on accessAtlanta.com and it led me to where attendees can buy their tickets from the Eventbrite site. You can also call 770-875-8186 for information. Limited VIP seating is $25 per ticket and there is an opportunity for vendors to register for $25. If someone can’t buy a ticket but would like to support the group, there is an option to make a donation.
Although I just discovered this event, I was very interested in finding out more about the organization it benefits, Clean Water to Africa, a humanitarian organization supporting projects in Liberia. Jennifer Goss the Program Director wrote, “We supply clean water filters and bore water holes so that the gift of clean water is accessible to all. Our goal is to prevent the many deaths due to drinking and cooking with the same water that is used for bathing and human waste. The event [MIHA Fashion Show] will bring an awareness to injustices happening worldwide and what we here in Atlanta can do to make a difference.”
By attending the first ever MIHA Catalyst for Change Fashion Event, supporters will have the opportunity to see their Summer 2013 collection along with learning about the MIHA movement. Goss wrote, “MIHA Movement covers projects all over the world. MIHA is an acronym for Make It Happen Association. Anyway, Anyhow, Anytime and/or Any place we will find a way to Make A Difference. We are the desire to make a global impact personified, branded and made accessible.”
To find out more about the organization and the event, I encourage you to visit www.cleanwatertoafrica.org and www.mihamovement.com. They promote themselves as outgoing, committed to service and having meaningful fun. Their purpose resonates with the vision my college students share with me and I look forward to attending the event my husband and friends.
